So I bought a ThinkPad X1 Carbon 5th gen laptop with an i7 7500u CPU from a local buy and sell marketplace off someone. I'm not really familiar with how long a battery is supposed to last on a laptop, but this ThinkPad seems to drain very quickly.
I'm doing some work involving virtualization...
Yes, I had the same problem and after hours and hours of research and trying different things here is how it is done.
What you want to do is update the bios from version 099 to version 120 via the "INTEL BIOS recovery method". Other methods did not work!
Here is a link with instructions on how...
I bought it second hand off a local buy and sell platform, so that's not a realistic option unfortunately.
I need to see if I can find some sort of cooler for it and I'll have to only store easily retrievable data like large games on it to avoid losing data.
Have you got any recommendations...
The problem was that the NVMe SSD was overheating and reaching temperatures that exceeded 80°C under load and exceeded 60°C idle!!!
I reinstalled windows on a normal SATA based 2.5" SSD and the crashes seem to have stopped.
I guess I need to find some sort of cooling solution for the NVME SSD.

This is the BSOD that I keep getting. Do you know if this is due to a hardware issue or a software issue?
My PC seems to be crashing at random times. I've tried so many different things including a clean install of Windows 10; rebuilding the PC; resetting the BIOS, downclocking the RAM from 3000MHz to 2133MHz and I don't know what the issue is.
I ran AIDA 64 system stability test (with GPU being...
I currently have a PC with a copy of Windows 10 that has not been activated. I want to activate it, so I can sell the PC with a genuine Windows 10 license online.
From my understanding, what computer refurbishers do on websites like eBay is that they activate windows through a Windows COA...
So I bought a few graphics cards second hand online and they have a lot of corrosion on the heatsink, which increased temperatures and caused the card to thermal throttle greatly.
After looking into it, apparently the corrosion can be cleaned off and should not happen again if I use an anti...
So I bought a second hand SAPPHIRE PULSE ITX RX 570 4GB GPU (I don't know if it's been mined on or even have a custom bios flashed on to it) and it has this annoying issue where the fan speeds come down very slowly.
If the card undergoes load the temperature and fans stabilise at 78/79 degrees...
I have done that but for some reason every time I restart my system it goes from the balanced power option back to the performance power option. Also, I don't ever go higher than 4.3GHz even on one core.
The "balanced" power plan settings in windows have changed it back to varying cpu frequencies, so thank you for that, but the max clock does not go above 4.3GHz instead of the 4.6GHz that the 8700 is supposed to achieve. Any idea on what I can do?
Also, I have not installed I.E.T.U on this PC.
I have an i7 8700 and a gigabyte z370 aurous gaming 5 motherboard and for some reason the CPU frequency is always stuck at 4.3GHz.
Normally, unless I am using an overclocked CPU, the CPU frequency is very low when I am using the computer for basic tasks and only turbos when I am gaming, but...
