    You can image the drive using GetDataBack if you're able to access the drive using that application. Then you can scan through the image that you've got to see if you've missed something.

    You might need to check your PSU also. It is possible that the drive is not getting enough power from the PSU in order to be properly operational.

    You may need to try plugging your External drive to a different computer. If you find out the same upon connecting it to a different PC then I believe the External Enclosure might have gone bad or the hard drive itself.

    You could try Partition Wizard's MiniTool or Partitiion Find and Mount to possibly recover the partitions of your hard drive. But if those applications turnout to be unsuccessful then I'm afraid your last possible option would be a professional data recovery service.

    That might be a possible sign of permanent failure. Since you are still able to access your drive occasionally, I would suggest to back up important data that you have from that drive to another good working media to avoid possible data loss.
