Have a ton of files saved onto this 2TB External Drive (WD My Passport) but cannot view files (contents of drive). Passport does show up as a Device, but there is no way to open it. Checked My Computer --> Computer Mgmt --> Disk Mgmt --> but could not find the correct ribbon to allocate a Drive (It didn't appear that there was a WD Passport Drive - searched all unnamed/unlettered drives. Help?

The data on this drive is priceless - old videos converted from VHS.

Hey there, MichaelJMaher!

I'm sorry to hear about your WD My Passport. :(
I'd take the advice to try with a different USB cable and another computer.
You can also try testing the drive with Data LifeGuard Diagnostics: http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?groupid=810
If it still cannot be accessed, I highly recommend contacting our tech support for further assistance:
http://support.wdc.com/contact/contact.asp?lang=en
If you wish to recover the data, you can get in touch with WD's data recovery partners first:
http://support.wdc.com/recovery/index.asp
Afterwards, I'd suggest to RMA the WD My Passport and get a replacement if it's still under warranty:

You may need to try plugging your External drive to a different computer. If you find out the same upon connecting it to a different PC then I believe the External Enclosure might have gone bad or the hard drive itself.

Try putting pressure on the usb connection on the portable drive, when the drive is connected to the computer.

If you're lucky, the problem could be the usb 3.0 connection pins on the drive enclosure not having proper contact with the cable pins.

Keep in mind that the recent WD My Passport series incorporate a hardware encryption, if you take it out of the enclosure you risk losing your data forever and voiding the warranty of the product!

Hope this helps.
