Z68 is the newest one. Z68 has overclocking and onboard graphic. P67 which should be cheaper by a good margin hopefully (hasn't check sorry) only has overclocking but no onboard graphic. You're purchasing a discrete GPU anyway so that won't affect you. The 6950 is a good choice it beats stock 560 ti [please research on this sorry] but completely lose out to OC'ed 560 ti.
How is the 2400 bad? It's overclocking capability is definitely weaker and it is definitely at a lower clock but everything else is pretty much the same. If he's not overclocking, he won't need those extra benefits. However, seeing how he wishes to spend $1000.. why not go for the 2500k instead 😀! Iirc, you get 40$ off intel motherboard if you purchase a 2500k or 2600k

If you can get that deal mentioned before bundled with the 2500k and memory to match it, it might be better than the board i picked out.

-The biostar is a crossfire board only and maxes out with ddr3-1333 memory.
It would be better to have a board that does both crossfire and sli.

I was thinking the pair of 6870's would be a bit faster then a single 560ti, and run cooler since the 6870's are known to run cooler and are power efficient.
