10m Ethernet cable not good for gaming?

I bought a class 5e 10m Ethernet cable yesterday. After connecting my PC to the router downstairs I downloaded BF2 patch 1.5 and was very happy with the downloading speed of over 1mb/s. Unfortunately my joy was very short-lived as I'm getting kicked off every BF2 server due to high ping of 500-700ms. 🙁

Does the length of Ethernet cable matters for online gaming? Is 10 too long or should I buy a higher class lead?

10 meters is nowhere near long enough to cause problems, unless there is something wrong with the cable, which I would say you wouldn't be able to download at 1Mb/s if there was. Does anything else seem slow on the net or is it only the BF2 servers.

Everything else seem to be ok, I just checked QukeLive and it's fine.

I've actually joined a good BF2 server this morning, my ping was quite ok, between 100-150. Unfortunately the game was staggering, like there were .5s breaks when I looked around. 🙁 I don't really know what to do. I forgot to mention that there are 2 other PC connected to the router, they were switched off in the morning though. I tried to game with XP firewall and my antivirus disabled, nothing helps. 🙁 I was hoping it's the cable, you say it's ok, so it looks like no BF2 for me...

Try moving the problem computer down to where the other two computers are at and see if the problem still exists. If the pings drop alot then I would try a different cable and maybe even a different port on the router.
