Looking at your list of uses, how important is gaming performance versus cost? If you were looking to spend less and gaming is not as important, I'd cut there. Then again, if you want to spend the money, you'll have a very capable system.

I've heard that the HAF 932 is somewhat easier to work in than the 922--if you have the space for such a large case and the budget flexibility, it might be a nice upgrade.

This site has the i7 920 D0 stepping--you might get one from Newegg and you might not. This guarantees it. Weigh this against the value of the combo deal.

Check out all reviews on the I7 for gaming not much better than a E8500 on a P45ud4 board. I am going to wate for the X58A board or the p55 board. People wast alot of money on system for gaming from all the hype they read but in the real life that were it all adds up. If you are going to spend this why not go for the ssd drive?
 
I would get the HAF 932 as well. I recently ordered one and Newegg had a combo for the PSU you want + the HAF 932 but I just looked and it was gone. I noticed Newegg changes their deals/combos/prices very frequently!
 
Hi, guys, thanks a lot for all your opinions.

HAF 932 may be a better, but it is huge, and I don't want a full tower, since I will not be changing the components often.

E8500 is a excellent CPU, but 775 socket is going to end, while x58 board will be main stream for the next probably 5 years, which left me space for upgrade.

In fact, I may not be gaming a lot, but occasionally. But I feel like building a modern machine that won't be outdated for a few years.

After some hesitation, I decided to add $55 to change the PSU from CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX to CORSAIR CMPSU-750HX, the modular version and Plus Silver efficiency.

Come on, guys, any other suggestions ?
 
If gaming isn't a big concern, you can downgrade the GPU to something like the Gigabyte 4850 1GB Passive Cooled. You said you wanted quiet, this is the best passive cooled GPU there is and it won't break the bank. The 4850 is very capable of gaming at 1080P as long as you don't need the very highest details. DX11 is just around the corner, getting a high end GPU now doesn't make any sense if you aren't going to use it.

The GTX 275 will fit in the 922.
 

Everything looks good, even your change to the modular PSU. But would suggest you also get this cable below, unless you want to run the 8-pin power cable from SU to Mobo across the length ot it.

As I mentioned, ATI cards suck in linux so they are out of my consideration, until they dramatically improve their drivers I won't ever touch them. (People who tried running ATI card in linux would understand my frustration :)

About DX11, is it really necessary? I mean is there going to be a huge difference between DX11 and DX10, like the one between DX10 and DX9? See the following picture:

By the way, I am about to place the order today, but I realize the video card I am after is "SOLD OUT" on newegg. Now I have no choice but wait. I really like that video card, due its excellent cooling system design. I hope there is a fanless (non-water-cooling) version of Nvidia GTX 260 or something like that. That will definitely attracts me.

Today, my friend just got his MBR 13" laptop ( we have the same budget). It looks fantastic! I definitely agree that they overpriced their hardware, but man, their system is alway an envy for me. 🙁

Gigabyte makes a passive cooled 9800GT...

The 9800GTX+ or GTS 250 would be the Nvidia equivalent of that 4850 that I showed you, but I haven't seen any passively cooled cards from those lines, that 9800GT is the best I can find for an Nvidia GPU...which quite honestly should be fine if you don't play many games.

The other incentive to wait for a better GPU is that the next round of cards coming out from both ATI and Nvidia will be on the 40nm process, which means less heat and less power consumed. The less heat portion means that they will be more condusive to passive cooling which you seem interested in. Most high powered cards require a fan on the because they just produce too much heat. I was very surprised to find that Gigabyte 4850. Unfortunately Gigabyte hasn't gotten around to sticking that cooler on any more of their GPU's.

Another thing, my combo deal of CPU and MOBO also disappeared 😱

Damn it, now I will wait.... 😱
 
the MSI GTX 260 raised their price, and also several other Nvidia card also raised their prices, including Evga, what the hell??

I placed my order yesterday right after they have that video card in stock again, today it is $35 more!!
The video cards are raising prices, I was lucky. :)
