133Mhz on 100Mhz mobo?

As expected I haven't been able to get a straight answer from Intel or Tyan! I need to know if until I perform a desired upgrade to a smaller case enabling me to use an ATX form factor instead of my current AT/BAT can I use say an 866Mhz or 933Mhz SLOT 1 CPU w/ 133Mhz system bus in my 100Mhz board? I have read numerous posts regarding overclocking the CPU, but nothing regarding a temporary stepdown of the system bus speed of a much needed upgrade from a PII 350Mhz CPU in a Tyan 440BX board until I'm ready for the much larger bite of a new case, powersupplies, cooling fans, and motherboard. Tyan tech support says it might work but they don't support it. PIIIs have come down significantly and I am chomping at the bit to purchase one, but don't want to shoot myself in the foot by puchasing a CPU that I won't be able to use later in the new setup. Does anyone know if a 133Mhz chip can run slower at 100Mhz without damaging the CPU? All input is appreciated!

It should work. That is if you have the 6.5 mult option.
You say you have a BX mobo... the 440BX can be run at 133FSB 99% most of the time. Look back at some old reviews on tomshardware. The only other problem that you could have is that it’s a P3 the bios needs to support the P3. If it does you are set.

(personal opinion below)
I would sell what you have now. It was a great setup back in the day but you waited to long for an upgrade. I would have got a celeron 366 and run it at 550. Anyway sell what you have now and go out and buy a Duron or Thunderbird system.

-------------
|3 866 = $188
|-P2 350 $40
|------------
|Total = $148
-------------

----------------
|A7V133 = $142
|T-Bird 850 $102
|-P2 350 $40
|-BX mobo $50
|---------------
|Total = $154
----------------

Plus the T-Bird is faster at the same clock & AGP 4x (if you need it).
