hi guys , I am in the market for a NAS hard drive. It's my first one and obviously I need something reliable.

I'm going for a 16TB 7200rpm

I'm hoping for multiple replies saying I should go for 'X' drive due to good reviews and reliability.

below are some of the models available at scorptec.au

chat soon

Seagate Ironwolf Pro 16TB NAS HDD, ST16000NT001
Seagate Exos X18 Enterprise 16TB 3.5 inch SATA HDD, ST16000NM000J
Western Digital WD Red Pro 16TB 3.5" SATA NAS HDD, WD161KFGX
WD Ultrastar DC HC550 16TB 3.5" SATA HDD, 0F38462 (WUH721816ALE6L4)
Western Digital WD Gold 16TB HDD, WD161KRYZ

Given 1,000 copies of each, I doubt you'd find more than sub-single digit percentage differences in 'reliability'.

Look through here:

hi guys , what i mean by reliable is that a certain model/s have high failure rates. Budget is around 750 aud.
Not really, no.

Look at my link above, and the rest of the fail rates from BackBlaze.
https://www.backblaze.com/cloud-storage/resources/hard-drive-test-data

And....those numbers mean little for the singular drive on your desk.

A couple years ago, I had an 8TB Toshiba Enterprise. Tiny fail rate.
The one *I* had...died.

So, even with the "best" fail rate, most reliable....you still need to be prepared for it to die suddenly. We humans have not yet designed a drive that will "never fail".
