I am about to upgrade my monitor. My current one is 1680x1050 and the new one will be 1920x1200. My 8800 GT has been holding up pretty well with recent games and I am super psyched about StarCraft 2 next week. I am concerned that performance with my new monitor will not be acceptable. Does anyone use an 8800 GT with a 1920x1200 monitor? Can I put off buying a new graphics card for 6 months or so, or is it a must-have with the new screen?

A friend of mine has 1920x1200 + 8800GT, he can run most things on medium-high settings with playable results. I haven't played Starcraft II yet, but I don't think it's too graphically demanding. If you want to get the most out of your games though, I'd upgrade to something like a 260 or an HD 5770... considering how much current 24" 1920x1200 LCD's cost (how much you must have spent), you'll probably be able to afford it.

I was in the beta and I'm capable of running ultra with a 8800gts at an avg 30 fps. I also have a E6600 dual core processor. Some of the setting seem to rely on cpu also.
I'm honestly not sure why I was able to run ultra and be fine. I didn't play any 2v2 or 3v3 player games so I don't know how much trouble that would be.

I'm also not sure if the beta's graphics were less demanding than what SC2 will be. We'll see I guess.

I was running it in 1920x1080 though. My monitor is broke and I'm using a 42" lcd tv atm.
