Ok I am running a tbird 1ghz ( not OCed ) on a asus A7V mobo.
I have a monster orb HSF along with a case fan and my [-peep-] ( according to ASUS PC PROBE ) is running idle at 51C
When I play a game, after a bit it rises to 64C! I had to take the cover off and put dual 10 inch fans on it ( house fans ) and it kept it at 50C while playing the game. Does anyone know of good sites with a Great PC Case. I think that happens to be one of my troubles ( my case is poo )
Plus I need a good Vidcard cooler.

So basically

1. PC Case - where can I find a good one for ventilation
2. Heatsink + Fan or watercooler...where can I get one?
3. Videocard Cooler

Think about replacing your orb with a better hsf and arctic silver paste. Most guys say the orbs are not as good as others like the alphas, fop's and a few others. You might want to mount a couple of 80mm case fans or a slot cooler inside to help out also. Inflowdirect.com and crazypc.com have a pretty good selection.

Its very important you understand Asus Probe reports CPU temps averaging 9C to 11C degrees higher then the CPU temps reported by the Asus bios and by other monitoring apps such as Motherboard Monitor.

Check your Asus bios and you'll likely see your true CPU temp is in the 40's.

Also don't overreact. This majority of posts to this board are made by persons for whom overclocking and cooling are hobbies. They do it for fun. Keeping your CPU that cool is not necessary. Placing two 10 inch fans blowing against your motherboard is overreacting. AMD states your CPU has a max operating temp of 95C. Does that mean you should let it get that hot? Of course not. But a temp in the 50's is not a problem, and like I said yours is actually in the 40's.

I have noticed though that basically when I was playing one game for a bit the whole thing just completely died out on my. It got so slow it was pitifu, which led me to beleive i need a videocard cooler now.
I know I figured I need a new HSF. Should I got watercooler? or just a normal HSF

What video card are you using? Does it already have a fan on it? Some video cards definetly tend to overheat. Chasis fans could solve this problem (see below for more on this).

Water cooling for you CPU? Listen to yourself. You are talking about a NON-overclocked CPU. If your 1Ghz CPU can't operate at 1Ghz with a standard heatsink/fan without getting too hot, its time to return it for another one.

There are hundreds of reasons a system will crash or appear to slow down while its being used. A NON-overclocked CPU with a heatsink/fan getting too hot is near if not at the bottom of the list. Your video card is a likely culprit.

You said before Asus Probe reported your CPU being 65C under stress. Again, I repeat, that temperature is inflated by 9C to 11C. Reboot, pull up the bios, check the real temp. When Asus Probe told you 65C the bios would have likely told you 55C, which is fine.

Would you like your CPU cooler then 55C (even though its not going to solve whatever slowdown/crash you experience when playing the game)? First, if you don't have 80mm chasis(case) fans, get two. One for intake on the front, one for exhaust on the rear. If your current computer case doesn't have places to mount fans front and rear, get the InWin (IW-S500) medium tower, or in whichever size suits you. Great cases, and inexpensive, available many places including online vendors.

I can't end this email without repeating I have seen no information from you which proves you have a temperature problem with your CPU. I have made a living installing and maintaining hundreds of business workstations. Never, NEVER, have I seen a PC go down due to the CPU. Memory, motherboard, hard drives, and anything other component is more likely to cause system failure then the CPU. Even when the CPU fan has failed, the power supply fan has failed, and the computer is being smothered under someone's coat, the CPU is still less likely to fail.

You posted your question on a CPU overclocking messsage board. Overclocked CPU's get hot, very hot. Overclocked CPU's need peltiers, water cooling, or at least high end heatsink/fans. But you are not overclocking. You have no need of any of these things.

augusten,

I appreciate the help alot. TO let you know what I have is this

Asus A7V mobo
256mb ram
Thunderbird 1ghz (not OCed...yet)
GeForce 2 GTS 64mb DDR with the stock fan on it.
300waat PS.

I think it is running hot because ofthe vid card.
Plus my powersupply is vertical, not horizontal like most so it runs parrell with my CPU and since I have a Monstor Orb HSF, there is only about a inch or less between the HSF and PS.

I do have a case fan on it, I may tru putting everything in my old ACER case, which has alot more room then this one i have now. I will check out that IWIN case. Do you have a link to it by chance?

Try using pricewatch.com and look for the type of case you want. Prices and shipping costs vary alot for the same case.
