I got an AOpen AX4C-MAX (875P chipset) for free, and my current system is a 1Ghz TBird. Newegg has the 2.4A prescott for $124. I'm not a heavy duty gamer.

Think it's a worthwhile purchase for me? Also, is that processor compatible with that chipset?

You might want to look into a 2.6c instead. That way you will get a 800mhz fsb and hyperthreading. It's 40$ more expensive but alot faster.

Watch out for the <b><font color=red>bloody</font color=red></b> Fanboys!

AMD64 2800+ :: MSI Neo-Fis2r :: 512mb Kingmax ddr400 :: Sapphire 9800pro 128mb :: 10K WD Raptor

Addicted, finally.

2.4A prescott are not Hyper Threading so you should get a Hyper Threading processor.

And yes, it is compatible with the chipset.

Ewwww thats the junk prescott which give you crap and leaves you out to burn, well in your case at least. Plus no hyperthreading. Go grab yourself a northwood CPU instead.

2.8C is the cheapest Northwood P4 Intel makes, they don't make the 2.6C any longer...so they should be around the same price.

If you OC, the P4A may be the way to go. Rumour has it that the chip can clock very high.
If you dont overclock, the P4c 2.6 is about 20% faster, the P4c 2.8 is about 30% faster.

well, I wanted to spend just a bit over $100, so I guess I'm going to wait a while till the 2.6c or 2.8c's come down in price a bit. Thanks for all the tips.
