Hi Guys,

I have a Sony Projector with a 3 pin blower to exhaust the lamp heat. The fan is creating a high pitched noise so im looking to replace it with a similar fan. Problem is I cannot find a 3 pin fan, im only seeing 2 pin fans. I'm hoping to step down the voltage with a Noctua 3 pin low noise adapter. Will it work with a 2 pin fan?

Thanks

Three notes of caution:

1. Just because the projector fan has a connector for 3 pins does not mean it is designed and wired the same as a computer case fan. Are you sure it is?

2, You should find the old fan's ratings for air flow, and ensure any new replacement can deliver that flow, too.

3. You plan to slow down the fan to reduce noise. BUT the fan is there to ensure the lamp heat will be removed. If you slow the fan that much, the lamp is likely to over heat. That could damage the projector or shorten lamp life. Besides, you may find that a new fan is already much quieter - the reason the old one is noisy may be that its bearings are worn out.
