I have a sensor which gives me an output via 2 wires. I need to send this signal to another module which can take input only through ethernet cable.
Is there any adapter available which can interface between 2 wire & ethernet cable? Pls help.
Thanks in advance.

You may not and probably do not need any adapter.

Are those two wires already terminated in some type of connector? What type of connector?

Do you know which two wires the receiving module's ethernet port is using (i.e., the "pinout")? Can you tell by looking inside the module or some schematic/diagram?

If you know the pinouts you can cut off the end of an old but functional ethernet cable, cut off the unused 6 wires and splice in the two source wires as applicable.

There are other options I am sure. Are you able to cut and splice the wires or have someone and resources to do that?

Dear @Ralston18, Thanks for your reply.

I thought of this idea before. But the problem here is that I need to splice the wires every time when I need to change the sensor. Plugging/Unplugging a connector is much easier.

However I will consider your solution since I have a lot of old functional ethernet cables.

Needing to change the sensor does complicate things.

How are the sensor's wires terminated if at all? Bare wires perhaps? There are a variety of snap on/off quick disconnect connections that you may be able to use.

Something like this:

Sensor -------two wires----> snap on quick disconnect male connector <=====> snap on quick disconnect female connector --------> ethernet plug.

You would just move or put the male quick disconnect connectors on sensor wires. And reuse the existing quick disconnect female connector on the sensor end of the ethernet cable.

Depends on the sensor wires termination. If terminated there may be a matching snap on (or even permanent) female connector that could used for the ethernet cable.

Radio Shack has a variety of quick disconnect systems. (Caveat: I have found some of them to be rather flimsy plastic and can break during connecting or disconnecting.) Auto parts stores may have disconnect systems as well for audio components. Home Depot, Lowes, audio stores, and electronic stores also carry connection systems. Even some hobby shops.
