20+4 pin orientation Maximus Extreme z

Can anyone who has installed this board help me out?

My PSU has a 20+4 pin. Lining up with the clip, the 20 pin should connect flush towards the bottom of the connector, and the 4 pin right above it.

However the 4 pin on my psu has a plastic guard on one side, making me think it should be the other way around. Any tips?

It should only fit one way. Check the shape of the plugs. Some may be notched or rounded.

I got it, thank you. The guard was meant to be a locking mechanism for the two pins, and only locked if I went from under (not over while plugging it in.)
