I am getting a 3DMark score of 2300 w/ a 1.4GHz Athlon, 512 DDR RAM, Visiontek GeForce 3 w/12.41 Drivers, Via 4-1's with AGP diabled, AMD AGP miniport, and Win2k AMD patch. WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG?!

Win 2k Service Pack 2 is also installed. Possibly monitor limitation?

First of all, if you've got Win2K SP2, don't install the VIA drivers. SP2 provides full VIA support, and I trust it rather more than the VIA drivers. You will still need the AMD AGP driver though.

Second...not sure about this (I haven't done 3Dmark myself)...but would your sound card affect the score? VIA's onboard AC97 is 100% crap and could very well slow you down.

Also, is 12.41 officially "stable?" I don't boot to windows often anymore, so I don't know. If it's not "stable," then go back to the latest stable revision.

Well, the AC97 only eats up 2% or so of preformance, even less when running the benchmark as sound is disabled. Only reason I am using it is to ditch the SB Live! problems I have had. The 12.41's are the lastest recognized drivers from Nvidia, not leaked or anything. I have installed the AMD AGP driver and it still runs like [-peep-]. Any suggestions?

wow, incredibly this is posted right under "Amd has the edge" LOL!

did you try to pull out ea. card out, and put 'em back one at a time? search for all your drivers on the Internet? set up all the Irq's, try viahardware.com or amdzone.com?

"<b>AMD/VIA!</b>...you are <i>still</i> the weakest link, good bye!"

hmmms...
what happens when you try to play a game? is it slow and jerky there too?

if so i suspect you may have the same problem ive got...
namely some issue between win2k, directx & the detonators.

try the 14.10's.
let me know if this "slowness" manifests itself in all games.
P.S. try direct3d AND openGL games.... im very interested to know if it is the same problem.

My hamster really wants to give you a big kiss, you sexy hunk you!

Well, no games are slow or jerky, in fact, I can run MechWarrior 4 at 1024x768 w/32 bit color and EVERYTHING set to highest with no slowdown at all. I mean that it never gets jerky or anything, no distortion or anything else. I have no clue of the FPS, but I can tell that it is easily higher than 50 just from seeing various games running. Half-Life does not work under Win2k w/NTFS file system, so I cannot include that. Neither does Unreal Tournament want to install for some reason. I think I will wait for DNF and Unreal 2, along with AVP 2 and such and check then again. If it is not fixed, I will just get a SiS 735 or Nforce chipset based mainboard and avoid any problems with the Via686B and such.

I have DirectX 8.0 and the 12.41's, but I don't think it is a problem with either of those. These problems ALSO show up on a similiarly configured system, but with a GeForce2MX and an earlier driver set; scores of 1400 are WAY too low for a 1.4GHz Athlon, Asus A7M266, 512 DDR 2100 CL=2, and two 40GB in RAID setup, for speed.

Try reloading your bios. I was overclocking and after a crash had the same thing happen to my GF3. I flipped the jumper on my board and things returned to normal. Even though the settings in the bois looked correct, there were strange things afoot.

It’s just a thought, I mean how hard can it be to rebuild you bois settings and it could work.

i had slowness across the range (only under direct3d though)

I'll respect your comments & opinions, even if i disagree with them, Provided you dispay maturity.

That doesn't make any sense.. I just built a Duron 850
for a relative with these specs.

Win2K SP2
Duron 850 on A7V-E
256MB PC133 Micron CAS2
Hercules GF2 MX 32MB
SB Live! Value
DirectX 8.0

I also installed the Via 4in1 AGP driver (4.32).
Did not install AMD's AGP driver.
My score in 3DMark2001 at default settings was
2390.

Something's not right here.

/edit I'm using Hercule's 12.40 drivers

Intel Components, AMD Components... all made in Taiwan!<P ID="edit"><FONT SIZE=-1><EM>Edited by kurokaze on 08/21/01 09:28 AM.</EM></FONT></P>

ROFLMAO!!!!

This is the best help they can give you?

www.icrontic.com

My best scores was with the 12.90 drivers. I lost a over 200 points with the 14.40~14.61

The quality is higher with the newest drivers, blends are smoother and I dont see that "double box" patterning in the blends with new drivers.
