Hey guys from the Internet and beyond, I was just wondering if a 2560x1600 resolution monitor is worth the money. Right now, I'm looking at an HP ZR2740w 2560x1440 resolution monitor. I can afford that HP monitor but I don't know if I want to raise that resolution to a 2560x1600 resolution. I'm also planning to get a GTX 690 when it gets restocked. Any suggestions?? Thanks in advance to those people that answered.

absolutely. I have a Dell Ultrasharp u3011, one of the most expensive monitors on the market. Monitors are one of the few things that aren't changing so unless you're itching to have a 3D display I can say with confidence that it's one of the safest and most futureproof investments that you can make. Unlike CPUs and graphics cards which will be obsolete in 3 years, a good monitor can last you 8-10 years so don't skimp on it.

I am currently running a Dell 3007 30inch monitor of a Saphire 6870 and love it. It hit just about the max size I can handle for a desktop monitor and I can sit back in my char and still see everything clearly. Mine came used so I didnt have to pay the full $1200 for it so I lucked out there but now that I have it I have a hard time trying to game on anything smaller.

Its worth it if you enjoy to game on extream level and don't mind to dump a lot of cash.

You might consider going for 2-3 670gtx also. I was tempted by the 2x 680gtx but for the price and raw performance. Well two 670gtx will match a single 690gtx for 200$ less dollar.

If your thinking about the future a third 670gtx will probably be 300$ or so next year so for 1100$ or so you'll have 3x 670gtx that woul destroy a 680gtx for 1000$. Just my 2cents.

I'm running 2560x1440 on a Catleap Q270 S-IPS panel I had shipped from Korea. Same LG panel as the Dell and Apple. Picture is perfect. I paid $315 and they shipped it in 3 days.

Now that I've played at a higher resolution, I will never go back. It's that much better.

Damn, you sir is flipping rich. 3960x? Damn! I only have a 3770K and a 680! Kaape. I'mma buy that Dell 30''.

I just upgraded to a HPzr30w from a 21 inch and wow it was worth it. I was on the fence and was just gonna get your model but I'm glad I bit the bullet. 2560x1600 is the way to go if you got the vid card to back it up.

Nahh, I thought about that too. But the GTX 690 will save me some PCI E Slots

Like most other questions....it depends on what you are doing....

For example, a photo buff who bought a 30" 2560 x 1600 IPS monitor and I'd chime in "excellent choice, I have one myself".....if you bought it for gaming, I'd have to be honest and say you could have done better for a lot less money.

Scroll to the bottom of the above link and see why (responsiveness and dynamic contrast).

For gaming, rather than spent $1400 on an IPS panel, I'd go for (3) 23" 120 Hz screens @ 5760 x 1080

(3) ASUS VG236H w/ 3D glasses $990

I bought the Dell 3007wfp-hc a couple years ago and it was the best decision I ever made. Tops my gf, cat, degree etc then it would be buying an ssd and my gtx 680. 2560x1600 for gaming or anything you do on the pc makes everything fabulous. Set IE to 125% for ease of browsing and away you go.

I thought OP was asking if it is worth it to go for 2560x1600 versus 2560x1440? Unless I'm mistaken that's a difference between 16:10 aspect ratio and 16:9.

In that case, many people prefer 16:10 monitors for computers because of the extra vertical space when doing normal tasks. But if there is a huge price difference for what you are looking at, I think 16:9 would suit you fine. You already will have a ton of space on a 27" screen with that resolution 😀 .
