I'm looking to upgrade my stock GTX 980 (that uses 2x6-pins) to a ASUS GTX 1070 Turbo (that uses 1x8-pin) and my PSU doesn't have a single 8-pin connector.

My PSU is a FSP 500W 80+ silver.

Would a 2x6-pin to 8-pin power adapter be suitable for this card?
Or should I go for a 1x6-pin to 8-pin?

Thanks for the help.

Solution

a dual 6-pin to single 8-pin adapter is usable

8-pin is rated at twice the wattage of a single 6-pin

I would not recommend a single 6-pin to 8-pin, no

Ok, thanks for the help.

I will give it a try and update the post as to whether or not it worked.

Won't be getting it for a couple months yet anyway.

Also, just to confirm, would my current PSU be suitable?

FSP silver rated 500w unit...

can you post the exact model number?

if the model number is correct then the psu

has four 6+2 pcie cables

those = 8-pin, no adapter needed

makse sure that is the proper model number

look at the sticker on the psu to be sure

One final thing I'd like to ask, will my processor be suitable for this graphics card (ASUS GTX 1070 Turbo)?
- i7 4790K (4.0GHz).

Really don't fancy upgrading that as well lol
