Hi

Would it be possible to use Kingston HyperX: 2x4GB 1600MHz CL9 DDR3 1.65v (khx1600c9d3b1k2/8gx) as dual channel and add to 2nd dual channel Patriot Viper 3: 2x8GB 1600MHz CL9 DDR3 1.5v (PV316G160C9K)? I assume I'd have to lower the HyperX voltage to 1.5v in BIOS somewhere (never done this before ever).

My mobo is ASUS B-85ME (https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/B85ME/specifications/).

I now use only the above-mentioned Patriot 2x8GB version and HyperX is lying around.

Any advise is appreciated.

Thanks!

Solution
the cpu/motherboard only support dual channel, even using 4 stick it is still dual channel
mixing ram not in 1 kit might work, might not.

likely you need to up the volt to 1.65 to run both set.
It depends on if the 4gb set will operate correctly on 1.5v or if the 8gb set will work correctly with 1.65v.

I guess there's only one way to find out. However, I'm not sure I'm willing to risk anything. Of course if there's a risk involved, because my PC is quite old (i5-4440) and I'm not planning on upgrade any time soon...
