Hello,

For my birthday I'm gonna get a 1700 euro PC , here are the specs

I5 4690k
Asus z97-A
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 Windforce 3 ( my main concern )
850 Evo 120GB
WD Blue 1TB
G.Skill Ripjaws 8GB ( 2x4 ) 1600MHz
NZXT H440
Cooler Master G650M
Asus VX24AH
Cooler Master Storm Devastator mouse and keyboard

Now I was wondering since the Asus monitor is capable of 1440p will I be able to play games like BF4 GTA V Far Cry 3/4 Crysis 3 Cod AW all at 1440p on high/ultra without framerate dips because of the missing .5GB of VRAM ?

Thank you for your time

I dont think the missing ram will be an issue for that maybe gpu power will the 970 is good for 1080p but in higher resolutions it doesnt perform as well or so i have read so far still should be good for high medium on some of the bars on those games still not really sure since the only game i own of those is Gta V and i still havent got the game cuz a small issue

Look into a good 1080p monitor and i think you'll already be satisfied and your GPU will be able to perform great for years.

Change your power supply though, the G650M is poor. Supernova GS 550w, XFX TS 550w, Seasonic 520w are all good options.

Ugh too much replies !
@RCFProd I wanna use my GPU at its full potential so .. Yeah 1440p since I can
None of those PSUs are available in my country but I can buy an xfx 650w 80+ gold for Germany
@Elemential I'm from Belgium , and I can order from amazon.fr/de , topachat.com

I would get this if you could for €1.7k
It's a much better build

First off, there is no missing .5GB of memory. All for 4GB of memory is in fact there on the card, and all 4GB is accessible by the GPU. Due to the way Nvidia designed the memory crossbars (think ways to access the memory), the final .5GB of memory gets accessed a little slower than the rest of the memory.

Second, in a discussion that AMD had a day or two ago, they admitted that no game yet needs 4GB of memory, unless they are trying to run 4K video (3820x2160) very high res detail. Instead, there was 4GB on video cards to increase the bandwidth.

Now, lets talk pixels, be cause any time you are talking 1440p vs 1080p it sounds like such a minor little increase...

1920*1080@60Hz = 124,416,000 pixels per second.
2560*1440@60Hz = 221.184,000 pixels per second.

1440p requires 78% more pixels than 1080p does. So if you see people saying they are having trouble getting to 60 FPS on 1080p, think about how much more horsepower you would need to display the same game at 60 FPS on 1440p

Using high settings is probably going to be tough on 1440p for most of those games. Medium settings for most of the settings would probably be a bit more realistic.

@Elemential that's a good build but I'm paying 3x550 euros , and buying from many different websites won't let me do that, plus the shops are from Germany and besides amazon.de they don't have free shipping to Belgium
