Question 3070 Ti versus 4070 for 1440p gaming ?

I'm looking for best bang for buck GPU in regards to playing 1440p at I don't know what FPS but let's just say 60 with games at highest settings. I don't mind turning down settings a hair but I want it to be looking sharp and good and have no issues with my GPU. I got a 3060 thinking I would crush and I was mistaken although it's still decent for 1080p I wish I had gotten something better. I also render video's from time to time on Da Vinci Resolve so that's a factor too.

I found a really good deal on a 3070ti atm and just weighing the options to see if the 4070 is worth $234 more?

3070 Ti has 8GB VRAM so it'll be more limited at 1440p over time and that could impact your other use cases (since your 3060 has 12GB). TPU's 4070 review shows it 19-20% faster than the 3070 Ti at 1440p.

Currently it's a pretty bad time to be upgrading video cards as the uplift vs cost just isn't really there. There have been some fantastic deals on AMD 6000 series GPUs and some decent ones on select nvidia cards. I jumped over to AMD for my spare as the $/perf was much higher than nvidia. If at all possible I'd suggest waiting because pricing likely won't get worse so more competition might be all it takes to adjust.

Yeah, 8GB is pushing it now for 1440p, one reason I got off my Vega 64, it was good card still at the time but 1440p was often tapping the vram out in modern games. Out of the 2, I would have to pick the 4070 due to more vram, but the price to performance is awful, and moving to the 3070 ti, I just don't see it being worth it for the most part due to the vram.

But if I was in your position, unless I needed Nvidia for some reason, I would consider AMD, the 6800xt is at a really good price for the performance, 16gb of vram, it often beats the 3080, Even the 6900xt is at a decent price to performance, but of course you don't get great Ray tracing performance, and I honestly don't like AMD's recording software, but the encoder is pretty good in quality.

Hard time to be choosing, epically the kind of pickle Nvidia got them selfs in atm, they are either overpriced, or not enough vram but still overpriced.

So what would you recommend to wait for the 5000 series? I'm building a pc for my gf and just going to give her the 3060 so this 3070ti is about 222$ more than the current going price of a 3060 which is probably worth it to have that better improvement in gaming at 1440p eh?

AMD's 7700/7800 series should be coming within the next 2-3 months and could lead to some further pricing changes. If you absolutely need to buy a card now the 6800 XT should be splitting the difference between the 3070 Ti and 4070 in cost while being faster than both at pretty much everything except RT.

There's no question, the RTX 4070 series is far better than the RTX 3070 series simply because it actually has enough VRAM.
