Build Link - http://pcpartpicker.com/p/HRVqNG

Ok so I have been posting from time to time on here asking advice about a build. Finally put it all together and bought ALMOST all of my parts. I'm waiting for the ROG SWIFT to get back in stock at Newegg unless someone really changes my mind about it, It looks like an awesome monitor.

I am looking for input on what graphics cards to run with this build. Obviously this decision is between the GTX 970 and the GTX 980. Either route I will go with SLI. Really just want to know if 970s will have any issues at all pushing this monitor at high to ultra settings with comfortable FPS for the next few years. Would it be worth it for me to get 2 980's? Budget isn't too big of an issue.

I plan to eventually water cool so I am wondering what card will be best for this. Reference coolers or the aftermarket cards such as the gigabyte G1 or the ASUS strix.

Yeah you are right, i agree with you.

Looks like someone has gone way too high with 980s, calm down please, this is a discussion forum, criticize the thoughts, not the person.

Anyways, Peter, it honestly appears to me you want 'THE BEST' w/o paying a thought about ANYTHING else.

If OP's willing to spend $600 more for 2 way 980s, this thread is pointless, but if he bothers a bit to utilize money in a better way, then there's some scope for me to say to keep my opinion.

The 980 is better than than 970, SLI 980 is better than SLI 970. But there's something called value for money, on a single 2.5k display, or even on multiple 2.5k, the difference in SLI 970 vs 980 in terms of RAW FPS is not more than 10-12 in most titles.

And personally, I wouldn't spend $500-600 more for that, I'd instead go for 3 way 970s which'd be better than 2 way 980s in terms of raw FPS while still costing less. So what is the point here? Its like trading 10 FPS for $500, not worth the premium, mate.

Its fine to take the extra frames, but I'm yet to make out how it'll affect the gameplay, with very comfortable FPS on either 970 or 980 SLIed

That said, you're right in saying SLI 980 has more performance than SLI 970, Peter. But seriously, who are you trying to show this to? Everyone knows that, so that factor doesn't even come in, its more about value/money, and even if you have $1.2k for GPU, I'd invest in 3 way 970s, it'll kill the 2 way 980s with spare bucks for an i5.

Well, unknown seems to have one heckload of patience lol. I read through the whole thing 😛 And basically it seems that all he's saying is that the GTX 970 is a much better buy for the money. As it doesn't seem necessary to spend all that extra for not much of a performance increase. Am I right?

Back to the OP, between MSI, Asus and Gigabyte they are all very much the same 😀 Just go with the one that looks best to you, or if you don't care about looks just go with the cheapest out of those three! EVGA is also a good choice, but I would rather have the other 3 mentioned personally.

Yeah its all up to the OP, i completely agree with you. You have put some thoughts into this unlike unknown. Look at him asking people to report me because i say GTX 980 is better.

This thread is being closed as a result of several folks losing their perspective. Trollish, boorish, and rude behavior will only lead to sanctions being handed out.

Argue facts, not opinions. Attack the idea, not the person. Back up claims, when possible. Don't get emotionally attached to any argument. In the end, does it really matter if someone agrees with you or not?

Be nice. Thanks.
