Thanks again geofelt and jassao!

What about the quality of the output to a bigger monitor in this case? Does it matter if I'm using a different card? Like I previously said, I'd like to hook it up with my 65 inch HDTV to watch movies (cough: not porn :cough) from time to time. I see the 4850 X2 has a nice HDMI output to allow me use the HDMI connection...does it matter?

Thanks.

A large tv will be either 1080P which is 1920x1080, or 780p which is 780x???. The size of the screen is irrelevant.

A hdmi connection carries both video and sound. Newer cards will have either a hdmi connector, or provide you with an adapter. Check the specs.

It probably does not matter what type of connector or cables you use, the results should be the same.

fyi:
1. the Antec Nine Hundred Case will fit the 4850x2 just fine.
2. with 6gb ram you need to be using the 64bit of xp, not the 32bit (or get the 64bit of vista).
3. hdmi cable: buy at monoprice.com, get the thickest (lowest awg), preferably with magnets on the ends; and you'll be fine unless you are like 40feet between the pc and the tv...
4. overclock your cpu, slightly at the very least. very easy to do, should be spelled out in your motherboard book.
5. how come you arent considering the geforce line? --while it was true that the 48xx cards were faster than the existing geforce when introduced, it's no longer true; radeon and geforce are about equal in gpu-power at about the same price points.

Thanks! Question for number 5, what are some equally good products from the geforce line in this case have the same performance as the 4850X2 then?

hey i have a 3870 with a core 2 duo 2.4 and i run WOW with all high... 1024x

you dont need a super card to run wow :)

i also have another PC with the 4870 and i run everything never had a problem yet :)

Well i do have a big doubt on wot to get in between 2 processors.

i am going to buy 1 but i don't know if to get the core 2 duo E8500 6mb 1333 bus with a frecuenzy of 3.16 Ghz or
to get a Quad Core Q8300 bus1333 4mb with frecuenzy of 2.5Ghz

if any1 can give me a clue on wot to choose..

Thanks.

You should get a HD 4870 X2 if you can... but if you're only gonna use it to play WoW it's a huge waste of money. I think you only need a 9600GT or better yet a 8800GT for at least future proof. You whole system is future proof excluding the GPU. I can let you download some of my games (I'll upload them) like GTA IV, GTA VC. GTA SA, Crysis Warhead, Crysis, Far Cry 2, Far Cry, Hitman Blood Money, Oblivion, splinter Cell Chaos Theory, Call of Duty 4, Call of Duty WaW, Call of Duty 2, Call of Duty, Mass Effect, and other more.... there big files though and there really GPU intensive so you can have a bit more fun and happy with your purchase on a HD 4870 X2. I mean you have a gaming PC that's meant for these games not WoW if your gonna just play WoW get a PC with a 2.6GHz dual core processor, 2GB or 3GB of RAM, and a 8800GT plus 600W PSU and you don't need Blu-Ray drive it's a waste of money you should get a Blu-Ray player not a Blu-Ray drive there roughly the same price while blu-ray players ouput better images sometimes since I notice blur when connecting my PC to my 50-inch, 42-inch, and 47-inch HDTVs (all 1080p) especially at 1080p resolution and they always recommend that you output resolution at 1280x1024 when outputting using a PC while Blu-Ray players can ouput clear 1080p image on an HDTV since its meant for it but I might be wrong with all that that's just my experience on using an HDTV as a monitor on a PC and viewing Blu-Ray on it vs. using a stand-alone blu-ray player

WoW is pretty much the only game I play. I ran it on a 9800 Non Pro first, followed by the X1950 XT, then the HD3850 and finally the HD4890. Each of those videocard upgrades have allowed me to gradually increase details and resolution until I was gaming at last at 1920x1200 and 4x/16x with everything cranked, and averaging just over 60 FPS even in the busiest Ulduar boss fight. It is a dream and a real pleasure to play and totally worth the purchase to me. Wotlk is definitely much more demanding graphically than the original was and it will suck up whatever videocard firepower you can supply it. And hey! As a bonus, it even plays other games well, too. Titan Quest, which was unplayable for me on the X1950 XT back in 2006, runs like an absolute dream with the HD4890 at widescreen resolution and all details.

I didn't choose the 4850x2 because of case size constraints and the 4890 was about 10% faster than the 4870. I looked at the Nvidia lineup, but while being slightly better performers for slightly more money, the HD4800 series seemed to overall run cooler and quieter, which was of interest to me as a SFF Shuttle owner.

I was reading through this and I'm making a new PC I'm getting the 4870 X2 2GB SAPPHIRE my ASUS monitor FULL HD !! I will update this post later maybe when I get it tell you how it is. :)

DODs (Valve2), full 1080p on 32" LG Monitor/TV with single 4850. This might give you some idea of how powerfull 4800 series ATI Video Cards are.

I would definitely recommend ATI over nVidia for you, since you're planning on connecting an HDTV to it. A little over a year ago I bought the 8800GTX, and loved its performance, but the overscaling for HD displays was broken, had been for something like a year or year and a half, and had not been fixed in all that time. I decided a company that cares that little about it customers didn't need my business, and I needed that to work properly, so I promptly replaced it with a 4850 and am looking at ATI for a possible upgrade in the near future. nVidia lost me as a customer because they refused to fix a problem that was crucial to me and many others. So since you're planning on using an HDTV, if you do look at their offerings I'd be very careful that they don't still have that problem.

I'm also aware you've likely already made your decision and purchased a new card, but I figured I'd post this in the event you haven't yet, as well as to warn any others in a similar situation.
