I have an ep45-ud3p and a q6600 and a psu of 680 watts.......

What would be the better purchase, I don't really plan on cross firing the board, which is supported and sli isn't so just need insite.

4890 is 15% faster then the gtx260(192) and 10% faster then gtx260(216).
The better buy would be the 4890 (pure performance wise) but how much is the price difference from where your buying from between the two?

Another Thing to keep in mind is what games are you going to be playing. Certain engines prefer ATI to Nvidia and vice-versa. Also remember that the 4890 doesn't support physics, so when playing a game like Crysis it won't be that same. But frankly, I got a 4870 and played Crysis and it really didn't shock me when metal shacks got blown up ( the physics were a bit unreal but nothing more).

There is a difference between physics and PhysX.

Crysis doesn't support PhysX, therefore an nVidia card wont help.

UT3 and Mirrors Edge support PhysX, so those games MIGHT be better on an nVidia card. However, my experiance shows that trying to run PhysX on the same card you have pushing your display is the ultimate in suck. You really need a dedicated card.

As the others said the 4890 is faster and more expensive than the GTX 260. The 4870 performs about the same as the GTX 260 and the GTX 275 is about the same as the 4890.

Cheapest prices currently on Newegg
4870 1gb $130
GTX 260 Core 216 $150

4890 $169.99
GTX 275 $194.99

Both the ATI cards are better buys, it just depends on how much you want to spend.

gtx 260

unless you want to spend the $ to get a gtx 275, get the 4890 over the gtx 260.

i also prefer nvidia over ATI.
