4k monitor shorted out? RMA/repair help.

Monitor: Dell P2415Q

Last night, I was just playing some game on steam when my power strip flipped its circuit breaker. This has never happened before. When I turned it back on, all of my devices worked properly except this monitor. It makes a faint buzzing noise when plugged in, but it does not power on and the power LED does not illuminate.

I'm assuming it shorted out, but I'd like some insight as to what the problem is and what I should do about it. If possible, I would like to avoid buying a new $400 monitor.

Unless you know what you are doing, opening a monitor to repair it may not go so well.

I'm not sure. It's been less that a year since I purchased it.
I'm fairly experienced with repairing electronics but nothing this expensive. I think I'll keep it closed. 😛

It may be a good idea to contact Dell.

These things are normally pretty tough. Defects happen unfortunately.

Yeah - first see if you can RMA it. If you can, why bother messing with it? If you can't, the reverse is true - what do you have to lose by messing with it? It's already broken.

At that point, have at it.

Lets hope its just a bad cap or caps(since at least those are easy to see) if you have to go inside and not a surface mount transistor with no signs of failure.

So I called Dell Support. Here's what went down.

>> Gave all my information
>> Dr. Gupta felt compassion in his heart and has decided to send me a new monitor
>> I must return old monitor once I receive the new one
