[SOLVED] 5 beeps but system seems fine

My friend just built a PC and everything seemed OK. But around 2 days after his system gets 5 beeps on startup but boots fine and there are no system issues.

He has a Gigabyte H310M S2H mobo and i5-8400 with a Coolermaster Masterliquid lite 240 RGB cooler.

Any ideas what the problem could be before we try and resit the CPU?

Its peculiar because a 5 beep code usually means its a cpu error but since your system is booting and working properly eventually, it can't be something as a bad seated cpu.

I'd give resetting CMOS a go and see if that makes a difference. If that doesn't work perhaps try 1 stick of ram in at a time? But yeh, I'm honestly dumbfounded at this point.

Hi mate, just tried this and the beeps persist. Any others ideas? We will be re-seating the CPU once the thermal paste arrives but was hoping it might not have to come to that.

Also if the computer runs fine can the beeps just be ignored?

Whenever you get the 5 beeps, we all know that it has something to do with the CPU. Forget the RAM, just go into BIOS and set everything to "DEFAULT", and reboot. Now you have zero beeps, right? Right. Now then, go through each and every menu, "one at a time", changing whatever you need to change, reboot, and see at what point you start to get the 5 beeps.
I am going to take a guess, and say your friend probably OC'd his CPU? If not, then it could be a voltage issue.
Good luck mate...let me know what happened.

I had the same problem.
I did what you recommended, now everything is okay.
In the BIOS was enable function "Fast BOOT", i disabled it. Then no beeps in the start.
Thanks man!

HOW I FIXED MY ISSUE WITH 5 SHORT BEEPS THEN NORMAL BOOT UP

short answer: try different hdmi/vga/dvi cable

I have been using my custom build for over a year flawlessly and decided it was time for a monitor upgrade. I purchased one from amazon and set it up. The following day I went to turn on my computer and got 5 short beeps a short delay and my computer booted just fine. I looked everywhere for a solution. I finally decided to swap out hdmi cables that came with my computer and bam! that solved the beeping issue. I dont understand how this has anything to do with the cpu for gigabyte board but the beeps are gone. Please try this fix for anyone having an issue. Luckily I had an extra cable from my old monitor. I really hope this helps someone. I created an acct just for this reply.
