need help getting pc to run faster

Ive recently been turn back to pc games my xbox broke and i didn't feel 400$ was worth what you get so i wanted to get back into PC games... dont have alot of money so price is going to be a LARGE facotor right now i have

GA-EP45-UD3LR Mobo
Q6600 OC to 3.2 air cooled
OCZ Intel Extreme 1333 4gb
8400 GS stock
HAF 932 tower
40" regza 1080p LCD 120hz
Ultra 750w

Right now im looking to upgrade the 8400gs to a 5870 but im affraid im buying to much to fast does anyone know of a bottle neck with any of my parts or would i be good to go after i get the new card?

Agreed, i have a Q6600 @ 3.6 running a 5870 and it runs great, no bottleneck. I also brought the Q6600 down to 3.3 & 3.0 to see if there was any decrease in performance and there was but it was a very small decrease in performance. As long as you can OC the Q6600 to 3.0, you will see improvement.

EDIT*** I see that you have the Q6600 clocked @ 3.2, you're good, do not worry about a bottleneck. You will see a very nice improvement between the 8800GS & the 5870.

yeah thats a 8400gs LOL much improvments needed but is there anything else i should get before trying to run crysis at full throttle

I'd say if you actually see ANY bottleneck, then OC, but max to 2.8 or 3GHz. I mean cmon the Q6600 is still very good

Crysis will kill all hardware but your PC should handle it fairly well, what resolution are you playing at?

So as long as everyone agrees buy the 5870 or 5970 and my rig is good to go no need to upgrade until next year?

Well when i bought the TV i wasn't thinking PC games so my bad on that but im am unaware of any resolution for a tv higher than 1920x768

I was thinking when I get a new HD5850 that will allow me to keep my Q6700 for another year or two. Seems like that cpu and gpu would be a great match.

I'll completely skip i5/i7 and move on to the next gen when it arrives. I really got my money's worth out of this $80 P965 mobo I have. Going on 3.5 years now and looking like I'll get another 2 years out of it with a video upgrade.

Amen to that ZZFH, i'm in the same boat, i don't see my Q6600 @ 3.6 not being able to keep up with anything for the next few years...
