65nm vs. 45nm

I have a Maximus Formula Motherboard and it says it "Supports Intel Next-Generation 45nm Multi-Core CPUs". Does it matter if I where to put a 65nm processor in the board? What is the difference between the 2 anyway?

Maximus Formula supports Conroe 65nm processors out of the box, (Intel '6' series). You would have to update the BIOS to gain full support for the recently released 8 and 9 series 45nm Penryn CPUs. The ASUS MF latest BIOS 1004, which I am using, fully supports the e8's and 9300. ASUS has not 'officially' released support for other Q9 series 45nm Penryn processors because they were just became available last week.

45nm consume less power, produce less heat, thus increase overclock limit. And yes, the board will accept 65nm cpu.

what bout if my board says it support 65nm...will a 45nm chip fit onto it aswell or not ?

The chip will probably fit, but you may need a BIOS update for it to work. Check the mobo manufacturer's webpage.

They fit in the same physical socket, so you don't need to worry about that. Make sure you have the latest BIOS though, and see if the CPU is listed on the compatibility list on the manufacturer's website.

Why would you download an Asus BIOS update from Fujitsu?
