My current system is as follows:

Fractal Meshify C - 315mm GPU clearance up to 335mm I believe with a front fan removed. ( I think 340mm fits at a maximum squeeze)

Gigabyte 1080TI Gaming OC

Intel i5 12400

MSI Mag Mortar WiFi 660m latest bios. No CPU overclocking features.

Corsair 1000w Gold PSU

4 x 8 GB Corsair Vengeance 3600 Mhz DDR4 CL16

Samsung 980 Pro 1TB

Crucial P5 Plus 2TB

Noctua D-15 Chromax Black Air Cooler

1440p HP27XQ Monitor @ 144Hz

Looking at upgrading my GPU and can't decide what to get.

My options are as follows:

Sapphire Nitro + 7800xt - £569.99 - 320mm length

XFX Speedster Merc 319 6950xt - £569.99 - 340mm length

There is an offer on a lower clocked 7800xt Sapphire Pure model for £520 also.

There is only this 1 model of 6950xt going at that price as the rest are at end of life or selling for much higher prices at other stores.

Thanks.

I would get the 7800XT since the 6950xt might not fit. The performance is so close it's within the error area.

Your also probably going to need to remove the 3.5" drive bay and the front part of the Psu shroud to install a 2nd front fan for airflow.

I would take the RX 6950 XT over the RX 7800 XT but only for the same price or less. You have a 1kW PSU (like I do) so power isn't an issue. Unless you care about the AV1 Encoder (something you should only care about if you're a content creator), the RX 6950 XT is 11% faster than the RX 7800 XT. That's a big enough performance delta to make it the better buy IMO.

By the case and card specks it don't fit.

It fit in with the front fan removed with about 1 or 2mm clearance from the metal fan mounts, it's a tight fit and the noctua D-15 almost touches the backplate of the GPU and it's a very compact looking build in this case right now, removing the GPU will be impossible without removing the CPU cooler first, pretty much most the motherboard is covered by the cooler and GPU.

I managed to add a 140mm fan intake at the top front with the fractal fan on the bottom with the HDD bay and a section of PSU shroud removed.

I also added two Sickleflow fans I had from another cooler to the top of the PC as an exhaust.

I ended up getting the 6950xt and a 14700k to go with it. Was probably a better idea to keep my 12400 and get a 7900xtx instead but I play alot of escape from tarkov and the 12400 is diabolical in that game. 30-40fps average now I'm getting 100-144.
