Hi, I assume (perhaps wrongly) that a single 6970 would be a more future safe option, as I could easily add another later, right? I was wondering though, which would give me the best performance at the moment for now, as they come in at about the same price. The same with a 580 or 560x2. I've read that there isn't a great deal of difference between the models, if that's true, I should opt for the one I can get the better price on?
Thanks for any help

560 ti sli is like 30-40% faster then a single gtx 580. plus they overclock like beasts, could probably bump that up to 50%

Can you not make up numbers. It's about 10% faster.

The gtx 580, if you can afford it, is the absolute best option right now. It is better than a single 6970, and you can also SLI it in the future when you are ready to upgrade.

If you don't have $500 sitting around, go for the GTX 570. It is generally better than the 6970 and you can find it a little bit cheaper if you look.

The only reason you would want to SLi a 580 is for resolutions higher than 1080p in which case the 1.5GB of VRAM can definitely be a limiting factor.

The HD 6970 is a better choice for multiple cards and multiple monitors since it's cheaper and has 33% more VRAM.
