so i currently have a 780 ti acx and im wondering if i should sli since there so cheap now or should i see mine and get a 980 ...i know theres not a big jump other then the extra gig of vram..or should i look to upgrade somthing else on my pc?

my specs are
cpu-fx 8150 black edtion
ram- 8gb of dominator gt
gpu- 780ti acx
240 ssd and 1 terabyte hdd
850 rm series powersupply
monitor is a asus 2560x1440p

this is a gaming system and my cpu is liquid cooled on a 120 closed loop rad

Solution
probably an extra 780ti

you might feel relief by knowing that with the new upcoming direct x version.,.,.,.,.,you will be able to add up the vram of multiple grafix card that are in sli

780ti gives 88% of the performance of 980.,.,.,so obviously 2 x 780ti is better

Solution
you can also consider upgrading your cpu cuz i can see some potential bottlenecks

may be you sell your cpu and get an fx 9590 or at least an 8350 this way you wont have to change your mobo,.,.,but might require some bios update

So the 3 gigs will become 6 finally? and how long till that happens cause my 780 ti still plays everything at ultra

Well i thought about getting one of the new intels but didnt know if i would see a difference at all or if it would be worth it

Are you talking about Direct x 12 and will the 780 ti sli be worth it?

well gaming isnt about cpus as far as your cpus dont bottleneck anything.,.,.,so i would say stick to the amd you have but might consider an upgrade without changing the mobo.,.,.,.,if you choose intel,, you will have to get a new mobo as well

So what would i get by upgrading to the 8350 and also i accidently clicked that you solved my question how do i remove it or bring this thread back. i just want opinions

by upgrading to 8350 of 9590 you will remove potential graphic's bottlenecks (i prefer 9590) and you will be able to fully utilize the power of two beast graphic cards + you will make your system at least 4-6years future proof

oh really what bottlenecks do i have at the moment and i wont have to change mobo if i get the 9590? how much better is it vs teh 8350 or my 8150?

well you might wanna read online about the drawbacks of fx 81xx series of amd cpus
they are equivalent to just core 2 duo from intel (yes the ancient one)
more cores always does not mean more performance

you might not experience any bottleneck with your single 780 ti.,.,.,but when it comes to 780 ti sli,.,.,and high end gaming at 2k,.,.you will very soon realize what i meant

and fyi since both 8150 and 9590 have am3+ socket .,.,.,so you wont have to change your mobo while upgrading the cpu

btw make sure your mobo supports sli

9590 is 59% better than 8150

And upgrade your PSU too if you want FX9590 and a another GTX780Ti.
For that combination, you will need minimum about 1000W PSU.

Note:
FX9590 is quite expensive, very power hungry and Intel can still beat this one's ass easily with a lot lower power consumption, thus it looks like a big joke to me, but if you want it, well why not.
Getting FX8350 and OC it, is more to my preference but it is your choice.

ok cool

a 850 psu wont power it? i know my buddy has the same psu and is running 2 770's 4gb models.......so do you recomend amd or intel?

For the PSU, if you go for FX9590 and 2xGTX780Ti in SLI you will need around 900-1000W minimum.
850W will do but the PSU will run quite near max power capacity or slightly over the capacity (depends on the quality of the PSU) and that is not good if you intend to keep your rig quite for a longer time.

About your buddy 2xGTX770 rig,
GTX770 consumes around 30-35% less power than GTX780Ti.
And, I do not know what kind of processor your buddy has.
It is very possible that 850W is enough for his rig.

Important:
I do not recommend you to use 850W for FX9590 and 2xGTX780Ti.
But it is up to you.

About the VRAM,
VRAM play a big role if you play games on high resolution.
3GB or 4GB depends on your resolution.
For 4k, the 4GB is better.

my psu is there rm850 from corsair its a gold rating and the 780ti i have is the evga sc acx....as for the vram i play everything maxed at 2k res i wont be doing 4k at all im very happy with my asus 2560x1440p monitor so i want to base it around that

Don't get the 9590; its a waste of money. For the same price you can get a i5 4690k which will be more future proof than any FX. Or, you could just get an 8350 and overclock since that's what the 9590 is. Not to mention that the 9590 requires a motherboard with a beefy power delivery system and a liquid cooling system. What motherboard do you have?

i have the asus M5A99X EVO R2.0 and to be honest i won that mobo and the 8150 black edition that came with the liquid cooler. also if i was to upgrade my cpu i would want intel and a i7 forsure . Just if i do it i want to have a noticable improvement for the money. my main thing was about the gpu and everything else was secondary

Yes I would reccomend upgrading to an i7/i5 from Intel because there will be no more bottlenecks, and it is more future proof than the FX series. It will last you 5+ years and won't bottleneck GPUs for several generations. The FX 8350 already bottlenecks the GTX 980 and even the GTX 970 in some games. You won't get the same FPS as an i7 or i5

ok cool let me ask you this then..would there be a noticable difference going from a 8150 to i7 for gaming
