Question 7900xt crashes constantly (driver timeout) in most of my games

So I've got a good deal on a Sapphire Nitro+ 7900XT and decided to upgrade from my 6750xt. Prior to this upgrade I've never had any issues with the drivers or any games. While performing normal tasks like browsing the web or watching youtube etc. there is no issue, however, once I boot up and play a somewhat demanding game the drivers crash. I manage to play for about 10 minutes to an hour before drivers crash unexpectedly. I stress tested the gpu using furmark and heaven benchmark and I've had no issue during the tests. CS2 is one of the only games that doesn't crash my drivers at all. I've pretty much done most of the fixes that I've seen online but to no avail. There are no stuters or anything else, my game just freezes for 3 seconds, my screen goes black and then there is the driver timeout.

* My gpu has 3 separate pcie cables.
* Tried undervolting
* I've ran DDU and installed different versions of the drivers.
* Played around with XMP

My specs:
CPU: R7 5800X
RAM: 4x8GB 3600MHz DDR4 Corsair Vengeance
MOBO: Asus B550 F-GAMING
GPU: Sapphire Nitro+ 7900XT
PSU: Corsair RM1000e

Resolution: 2560x1440 at 165Hz

I've got no temperature issues on both my cpu and gpu, everything runs well and the pc is cooled properly. The current version of drivers I'm on are 24.12.1 (ive been on the beta 25.2.1. and prior ones however nothing seems to help).

Adding to all this, my sound in most games is weird, I cannot hear dialogue and some effects, like they are very distant, it used to all be well and I didn't tinker with any settings, i dont know whats happening with my pc. Youtube or other types of streaming seems to be working well soundwise.

I've ran DDU and installed different versions of the drivers.
Use DDU in Safe Mode to remove all GPU drivers(intel, Nvidia and AMD) to manually install the latest GPU driver sourced from AMD's support site in an elevated command, i.e, Right click installer>Run as Administrator.

You're not the only one undergoing the issue, it's very likely that the drivers are what's causing the issue.

You're not the only one undergoing the issue, it's very likely that the drivers are what's causing the issue.

Hi, So I've read through the reddit post and it seems to be about the issue but on laptop, I'm on a PC. I've checked replies upon initial pc fixes and tried the only one there and it is not working, which was disabling Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling. Hopped on a game and I crashed not even 5 minutes in.

As for my bios version: 2806, 27/10/2022.

And yes, I did run DDU in safe mode and its still happening on other versions i've installed. All I can do now it to pray that maybe the next wave of driver updates is going to fix this issue because I've heard that the 7900xt itself clashes with the drivers.

To rma just seems like a very big hassle since they are not making this particular model anymore and that I got it at £700 when it was on sale and now the price for a Sapphire Nitro+ is around £840-£899. That’s if you do find it in stock. There are other options i could seek, like rma’ing the 7900xt and waiting to buy a 9000 series with the refund money, however scalpers and bots will be the end of me. Or just wait for new adrenalin patch around the release date of the 9000 series, since this issue is quite common for people with XT(X)s and I doubt AMD will just ignore finding a solution, because they’ve already acknowledged the problem to the public, whether they are addressing the issue I’m not sure. Based on some research I did, I saw that this mainly driver issue is because of some aggressive power saving technique AMD implemented in their drivers but that would be contradictory to me rolling back my drivers and the issue still persisting, so I’m not sure.

Can you try it in another computer? If so you can confirm if bad. RMA what ever you paid for the card, they will give you the same or better so do not be shy when it comes to doing that if confirmed faulty.

I cannot try it in another computer. However, like I stated I was using a 6750xt before, with a 750w psu. I got the 7900xt and used it with the 750w psu for around a week and everything went well, no driver crashes and all. I know that 750w is minimum requirement and decided to upgrade my psu to the 1000w i have now and a different case while i was at it. So i migrated every part into the new case and everything was working well for a couple days but the issue came out of nowhere and now I can only play less demanding games like CS2 or LoL and so on without my drivers crashing. Also, I have noticed that after my drivers crashes once I can boot up the game again and play for prolonged time compared to before, very weird.

Different programs/games stress GPUs differently.
Run HWiNFO64 in the background to get a feel for what temps your GPU is getting up to when it crashes. Try leaving the voltage at stock but dropping the GPU clock down from its peak boost. Try 200MHz lower than peak boost at first. Also verify that your RAM is at default clocks and Fast Timing is off. Also set the Power Tuning to +5%.

Do these things and see if the card lasts longer in game or (hopefully) doesn't crash at all. Was the card new or used?

The card was bought brand new. I’ll try your fixes when I’ll have some free time, thanks for your reply, ill let you know if anything works.

I have had a lot of driver issues with AMD cards. If they work for you and you don't need RT or creator things you can really get a good value.

Yes, i am aware of that, i prefer AMD over nvidia, I couldn’t really see myself buying an nvidia card at the moment, unless i find a 4080 for the same price of the 7900xt I got.

Like I stated before, i never had any issues with my old card, so it’s just unfortunate, i do get that softaware/hardaware doesnt’t work at times for bizzare reasons.
