Ok I have narrowed the choices from prior posts to either a 760 or 7950. Not sure which to choose though. I do 50/50 gaming/media center usage.

I might be wrong but looks like in Benchmarking (which is all we have to go on besides owning it and trying it) the 7950 beats 760 on all normally benchmarked games. I know both are "very good" but I want to buy either of the two and want to know which to go with. Can someone help and explain rather than throw out a name and say get this?

My choices (help from another post) if 760:
1. MSI
2. Gigabyte

I am not sure what to choose if 7950 is better:
-*please make recommendations* as to 1 or 2 great 7950 cards. I planned on spending up to the price of a 760, but the comparison of the 7950 came up.

I have an AMD FX 8530, Gigabyte GA990FXA-UD3 4.0, and a CM 700V and "planned to overclock my PC".

I was comparing it. The link to the Sapphire website has the pic of the 3L, because in the pick it has a chrome plat in the top right of the card. I didnt know if you chose that one by accident. Anyway, I now know you have the 2L:

"SAPPHIRE 100352-2L . this card's model no is 11196-16-20G. uses a reference AMD HD 7950 PCB design. there is a AMD marking above the PCI- express connector which is found on all reference AMD cards. compatible with full cover waterblocks. card is 29 cm long. dual link dvi, hdmi, 2 mini displayports. unlocked voltage."

Aside from price lets say, you still would recommend the Vapor-X over yours? Is there a performance difference in the two? I cannot tell.

yes, this is correct. 7950 w/ boost is on par in performance with the GTX 760. the GTX 760 is the reason why the HD 7950 got the boost from AMD. however, when overclocked to the max the HD 7950 edges out the GTX 760. but this isn't the important issue. look at the price difference a GTX 760 costs $250+ while an HD 7950 can be picked up for $200 after rebate, with 3 free games to boot. i got a pair of GTX 680s and as much of an nVidia fanatic that I am, i wouldn't even look at the GTX 760 if i was you.

get the gigabyte 7950 with the 3 fan cooler for $200 from newegg and be happy.

Aside from price, actual card performance, which is a better card both stock and overclock? see link:

No they had the boost edition long before the gtx 760 cameout so the gtx 760 had nothing to do with the boost edition.Maybe the regular higher clocked edition.glen you are thinking to much about this the lower cost of the 7950 and the 3 free games you simply cant beat the deal.

The Gigabyte for $199 after rebate is the best deal but if you're going to spend $260 then the 760 is the better card. The free AMD games can all be had for less than $10 with the exception of Tomb Raider ($15) and Far Cry 3 ($20). The 760 comes with Arkham Origins ($50) but it isn't out yet. If you want to spend $200, go with the Gigabyte 7950 but don't spend $260 on that Sapphire.

Are you saying that both the Gigabyte OC'ed and the Sapphire OC'ed will post same results?? I just want the better brand which ever that is and better performance. Is the Gigabyte boost locked or whatever?

And for the prior post, the Sapphire is $239 and Gigabyte is $199. Just being technical.

Yeah they both have good coolers that will allow you to overclock them both to the same speeds. The performance will be the same and if it's not it will really be unnoticeable. Save yourself the $40 and the gigabyte also has a 3 year warranty opposed to 2

Yeh I am def going 7950 compared to the 760. Just which one?

I see lucas, you mentioned the Gigabyte card because its a tad cheaper than Vapor X. I see they are both volt locked but to the best of my knowledge, the Dual X 3L version is not volt locked. The dual X is priced in between the two above mentioned cards. Maybe I should go with that??

The other issue is, the new line of AMD cards come out sept 25th, so should the prices on the 7950 come down even more than where they are at now (including the games being offered)? if so would the prices on the 7970 come down also?? Should I wait till sept 25th?

the gigabyte (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125414) is the cheapest card, with the best cooler, great build quality (better than a reference board) and the best warranty. it just makes no sense getting anything else.

as far as the next gen cards go, you don't have to worry about that. you wont get anything better for $200 when HD 9000 is released. HD 7950 is a $260 card but AMD cut the prices and no one knows for how long.
