I think the 7600GT would be faster than your X800XL, but not faster than a X800XTpe or X850XT(pe). As far as upgrades, I don't think it would be a good upgrade from your current card. Look for a 7800GT, 7900GT, X1800XT as a real worthwhile upgrade from the X800XL.

Yep, the X800 XL is still a good card. You're going to put out a sizable amount of cash for little, if any, performance increase.

From an X800 XL, I wouldn't bother moving up to anything less than an X1800 XL or 7800 GT.
