8500gt vs 7300gt vs 6600gt - for new games

i found a lot of benchmarks about these cards and they perform closely to each other as well as their prices (here in the philippines), but the games used were semi-old games (2004-2006 games - far cry, ut2004, quake 4).

i wonder how will they perform on newer, 2007-2008 games (cod4, frontlines fuel of war, pro street)

any ideas and especially links are very much welcome.

8500GT is the best from your options but the 8600GT is much better than the 8500GT. The 9600GT performs more than twice as fast as the 8600GT. if you can afford one get a 8800GT.
PS my 7300GT has never failed me.
 


have you tried installing newer games on your 7300gt?? how was it?? is it ddr2 or ddr3?
 

7300gt is bottom feeder, and won't allow you to play games like cod4 at playable frame rates. The absolute minimum for those newer games would be 8600gt. Any lower will strain your eyes due to low fps. See chart for frame rates:

Dagger. Your statement about the 7300gt is 100% wrong. I have been playing it on a 7300LE with an old crt at 800x600 and it's pretty smooth on the medium settings. By the way, yes I've played and beaten the entire game. Now if it goes up to higher resolutions dagger is correct I am sure. Also, since they can be had cheaper after rebates, check out a superclocked 8800 gs. That should perform on par with or outperform the 9600gt in many areas according to benchmarks. When you can get one for about 100 bucks with rebates, that's the best deal right now I think. That's what I'm looking at later, or maybe the 9600 gso which is supposed to be the 8800 gs, just re-released in the 9000 series. I've been throwing that idea of a lower end card like an 8500gt or something comparable around just till I can afford better. But I can run a lot of my stuff on lower res now, might as well stick it out and get something good.
 
None of your cards are worthy of "NEW games" 8800GS or higher, or ATI 3850 or higher. Unless you like playing at 800x600 on low to medium settings.

I have a 8500GT and it is a piece o crap for New Games. Lucky for me I game on XBOX 360 and use computer for movies/internet.
 
i have a 7600GT (DDR2 version) and i can play all new games at 1680x1050, although on low settings. crysis works on low at about 24fps,(although just barely) and COD4 was actually quite enjoyable.
 




Good luck with that. Just because it loads dont mean its playable or enjoyable. Some people like to play their game instead of watching a slide show.

guys thanks for all of your replies, but you haven't answered my question.

1280x768 is enough for me i'll just take care of the detail settings coz some detail will greatly decrease your frames but some will not but you will notice the graphical changes.

7900gs 1024x768 res medium quality only 13 frames per seconds?!?!

i tried playing cod4 in 7200gs at very low settings 800x600. 35-42 frames per second. very smooth and at 1024x768 low settings 11-15 frames per second. very slow. fraps 2.9.4

7900gs is miles away from 7200gs, only 13 frames per seconds???
 
I used to have a 7300gt with 256 of ddr2. It could handle games like oblivion, and even COD4 on very low settings at very low resolutions. I upgraded to an 8600gts which is a good bit faster than an 8500. It could handle most new games at decently playable settings, but not games like crysis and I ended up upgrading it because it simply was not fast enough for gaming for me. Neither the 7300 or the 8500 is really intended as a gaming card. You may be able to get games to run but in many cases the visual detail you have to sacrifice makes it not worth the trouble. Try to get at LEAST a 7600gt or 8600gts, but you should really save up and get a 9600gt or better if you want to play new and future games at good settings, even at 1024x768.
 
Still using 128/128 6600GT PCIe. Plays COD4 @ 1440x990, ave fps 15, medium settings. My eyes hurt after each gaming session.

Since my mobo is a Via PT880Ultra AGP/PCIe (x4), I'm planning on upgrading to a 7600 or 7900 series card.

Oh well.
 
i can play cod4 with my 8400gs @ 20-30 fps all low @ 10x8.my pc @ work. its not a slide show, because if it is, theres no way i can call chopper support each game eh?

on the other hand i can also play it on my q6600 +9600gt (oc) on a steady 100fps all on high 14x10

i can also play it on a steady 50fps with my old 8600gt + x2 4000+ @ 2.5ghz. all on high no AA 14x10

cod4 is not that taxing on your system. skip crysis, its not really that good anyway.

for the thread starter, wait a little more and buy your self a 9600gso if the budget is really tight. you'll be really sorry with the cards you have in mind.
 
just wait till the new cards come out (very soon) and get a better card for alot cheaper. I have seen price of 138 bucks for a 8800 GT 512 so they are falling bud.
