8700k overclocking. Can’t get 4.8ghz

Is it possible to receive a chip this bad? I’ve been running the chip at 4.6 @ 1.2 volts and my temps are ok at best.

Currently overclocking my 8700k and just not finding the voltage to work and I’d also like to mention I’m clearly a novice with OC. I was able to achieve 4.6 @ 1.20 and no lower voltage to be completely stable with 12 hours of prime 95 and some cinebench runs. Currently working my way up @4.8 from 1.255 to 1.28 all not working. The temps just get way too high after 1.28 volts and it’s not stable either. Also tried Aida 64 but the cpu plus fpu (or whatever it’s called) give me too high of temps and crashes in assassins creed origins so clearly not stable or good. Does this mean dellid or nothing? I mean I’m not just gonna go buy a 280 or 360 mil rad. The cooling performance won’t be too great and not too mention that’s not Gary reed to get me 4.8 ghz. I mean neither is liquid metal but I bet you it’d take me closer. No I did not try 4.7. I want at least 4.8 but since I can’t right now I’m going to leave it on 4.6 till I hear back from you guys

You don't mention what kind of CPU cooler you have. Without a good CPU cooler, overclocking results will be minimal at best. Extra case fans or better ventilation will also help the cause, although not as much as the cpu cooler itself.
You should ALWAYS try to keep the CPU temp under 84 to minimize early degradation of the chip.

what level of load line calibration did you set?

I also have 6 sp 120s. 3 in the front two on the rad and one as the exhaust.

I never set a level of load line calibration. So I’d imagine the default? I’ve never messed with it

you want to set it to medium first, i don't know you specifc motherboard, without a proper llc set, cpu voltage drops pretty hard on high load. causing issue with oc.

Why are you fiddling with the voltage at such low overclocks?

I am getting 4.9ghz all cores before even doing that.

op is worried that by going higher voltage, his cpu temp too high for his current setup. and seems that OP don't have plans to change his cooling setup.

I did raise the voltage. Even when doing so it still made it unstable. Whether i raised it or not. I tried both. Temps raise alot when volts get too high and not stable. Temps stay good when the voltage is fairly low but guess what. Still not stable and yes i tried removing the cpu cooler and placing it on again. No positive results. Do you have any idea? Ive felt the pump and you can feel the water flowing through the pump just by placing a finger on it. So it must be a bad chip or something

what do you mean why am i fiddling with the voltage lol? If its unstable at a low voltage you know what the first step is right? You raise it a tad and test. and retest. and retest. And i got bad results as in none at all. Couldnt get a stable clock at all with 4.8. i know i shouldve tried with 4.7 but i didnt. For some reason im receiving crashes in BF1 and assassins creed all the time now so im gonna swap my h100i for another h100i i happen to have. Although it feels and looks as if its working fine
