The best card for the money would really depend on your monitor size. Normally I would recommend the 4850, however it is proximately comparable to the 9800GTX and that wouldn't be enough improvement to bother. The next step up would be a 1GB 4870, or a GTX 260 Core 216. Both of these cards perform similarly depending on the game. Since u have an NV mobo, I would go for the GTX 260. Either of those two cards will serve u well up to a 22" LCD. If u have a 24" I would recommend a 4890 or a GTX 275. Again since u have a NV mobo I would go with a NV card b/c of support for SLI. If ur looking for a new mobo I would get an Intel mobo and go for a Radeon.

I personally have an XFX 4890
Phenom II 940
4GB of DDRII 800
I also have a Sapphire 4890 TOXIC in the mail for Crossfire :))
24" Gateway LCD

I don’t care what you have :fou:

Yes you will notice a difference with the GTX260.

@ joey40949: Do not change the motherboard, PCI-E 1.0/1.1 is fast enough for anything short of a GTX295 or HD4870X2 and even then, the performance loss will be small.
Before anyone can make a meaningful suggestion we'll need to know your monitor resoloution and power supply details.

How about, oh I don't know, add another 8800GT and SLI it!!!??? You're not gonna get better value than that :D. The only reason to get a newer 750a or 780a board is if you are having stability problems or want to get a better overclock from your CPU.

IDK who told you that, but they lied.

Of course, 8800GT are a little hard to find these days...

If you play older games that don't benefit from sli, then why do you need a stronger GPU? Isn't the 8800 GT enough for those older titles? I'm not trying to start a confrontation, I just don't understand.
