9600 GT is severly being bottlenecked.

Ditto, do exactly what he said. I believe on new egg you can get an Abit-IP35-e for $70 After rebate(You can also get the Gigabyte DS3L for about $90 and I mine works great). Get a E2160 for about $70 and go to town. Its for a FACT your cpu. I have a E2180 @ 3Ghz and get roughly 1000 more cpu points that you (about 2600). For roughly $160 you will get a great gain for very little money. In the end you will be glad you did considering when the Quads get cheap and support for the 45nm cpus, you can always rip out the 2160 and replace it, OC it, and good to go for even longer. BTW with my E2180 @3Ghz, 8800GT @ 700/950 I get about 11400 so roadrunner has a pretty good clue to whats going on.

Bildo, we aren't looking to max out the score. We are trying to find out why his games run slower then when he had an older card. He gets the scores he should get with that system (video card scores look a little light to me, but probably nothing to worry about.) so why do games run slower?

This isn't an overclock your CPU, or replace your motherboard solution.

+1

I DONT WANT A HIGHER SCORE!!!

There I said it. Now on with the results.

The good news is that Windows XP gives me a 7 fps improvement, the bad news, thats still 10 fps less than it should be according to you guys.

The worse news is that it doesn't like my drivers for my network adapter, so I'm hunting to find some...

10 FPS could be on the account of your slower ram and the 8x PCI bus. I really dont think anything is wrong with your setup. It just aint put together to play the games you want to play.

Cheapest fix is a new mobo and ram same CPU. But if you go intel youll spend about $70 since you need cpu. Intel would be a big difference. The choice is yours and I wish you good luck on your decision.

OR:
I have a brandnew Phenom 9500 for sale with onboard graphics for $589. Drop your card in and game on. 250G HDD 2G RAM DVD/RW Heres a Pic of it.

And my -stock- 8800GTS (G92) gets 12K.

Xp will score better then Vista. MAybe thats the case.
XP runs everything faster than Vista and has no driver problems and uses RAM in a much better way...look at my post on the first page for all suff and game running at the same time with 59% of 2GB of ram being used.

no drivers problems??!

I have been spending 2 hours trying to get XP to recognize my network card!

Still isn't working!

If only I had $519, I'm too young to hold a job yet...

So, I guess I'm stuck with this computer, I still think something is not working the way it should.

I've got a 9600GT so I decided to post my results so you can do some comparison. Without over clocking it I am getting 10448 3dmarks in 3dmark 06.
SM2.0 - 4665
HDR/SM3 - 4385
CPU - 2917

With the 9600GT over clocked (735/1850/1000) I get 11352 3dmarks.

my specs:
E2160 @ 3.3Ghz
2GB DDR2 1066 (5-5-5-14)
9600GT
550W Rosewill PSU
Windows XP Pro (32-bit)

So by looking at that, it seems like your CPU and Memory bound (memory probably because of Vista). 550W should be plenty, and my PSU only has 18A on the 12v rails. the 8x will definitely have some impact, but not as much as you would think.. but all three of these factors add up together. Have you tried to OC your RAM and GPU?

My system before this, which was an X2 4000+ @ 2.7Ghz with a Radeon 2600PRO and DDR2 ~900(OC'd..) got 4.6k in 3dmark06.. and I was able to run Crysis and World in Conflict fine at medium-high settings (no AA 1024x768).

What are your temps while playing?

53 C. Perfect for me.

I have tried to overclock my ram, but not much (I have a model from 2004 made by dell next to some other model)

Can I ask you of a big favor though? Can you go ahead and put your 9600 in you old computer, oc it to 2.5ghz and if possible force it into x8 pcie mode, and tell me your results? It would be great to see the score.

18 A on the 12 v rails? My old power unit was that much, which is why I bought a new one. I wonder then, if switching power units will solve my problem?

At one point it was. With the newer games and video cards no longer getting better, it's starting to sway towards cpus now. MS Flight simulator and Supreme Commander are two examples of needing better cpus. there are still games that need the gpu as the best you can get. As for the video card:
http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleid=2253&page=8
It does seem to be a high end type, close to a 8800 series performance, that usually needs the fastest cpu out there (haven't seen a cpu that can bottle neck it yet).
You should be able to get a good performance boost by either overclocking or getting a faster cpu. But as a few have said, it still should be performing better then the 6800.

Well, now it is performing similar to the 6800 in more demanding scenarios. My only worrry is that my 6800 could achieve similar results as it is.

Wow, something is still very awry. As much as I loved my 6800s, they are garbage by today's standards.

Is stuff like your mobo still under warranty? I checked a 9600GT's power consumption and it can be nearly 2x that of a 6800GT. If your PSU was on the edge that could have pushed it over and could be causing other stuff to mess up. I still don't get why 3D Mark works but games do not. It's always so hard to diagnose problems w/o being there.

I know. Actually, I bought a new PSU with the card, and that one has 19 a on the 12 v line 1 and 17 on the 12 v line 2.

My mobo is under warranty, but I cant return it for a refund. And I'm not going to replace garbage with the exact same garbage. [:kentuckyranger]

Good, make sure you get a quality one next time.

Guys, guess what?

Lets change severely bottlenecked to mildly.

Crysis runs at 24 fps on all high without it being patched on XP.

Its in heavy scenes, my CPU shows its age, but it only goes down to 15!

Awesome!

Road runner, I am indebted in you. Maybe my next purchase will be an Intel motherboard and CPU (unless AMD gets their act together!)
😀
😀
😀

Well, while we being to wrap this thread up, a few more things.

-Is there a way to simulate direct x 10 features on World in conflict?
-I'm still being bottlenecked on something, albeit it is less noticeable on windows XP.
- And finally, Thank you everyone! I think this is one of the fastest growing threads of all time! 😀

1) Don't think so, but if there is google will let you know.
2) I'm still sticking with a CPU bottleneck.
3) No, not at all, you have no idea how fast flame threads grow

My question is, hows that score possible with THAT cpu and mobo?

First off, the OP wasnt wanting better bungholio marks, he was asking why his old and not even in the same ballpark gpu was as good as his new 9600GT. Instead of helping him, and analizing the potential problems, or reasons to help, he was told thats all hed ever get. Thus my question, if thats so, howd he ever make it better, even after being told he couldnt.
