9600 GT is severly being bottlenecked.

LOL, increasing the resolution isn't going to improve performance even if he is CPU bottlenecked. At best performance will be the same at the highest resolution if his CPU is the limiting factor.

OP said he is over 7200 points in his last run. ? Are you able to do a quick run? If you look here he looks on par with others similar even the fact of the 8x. http://service.futuremark.com/search/form.action#

I apologize... *puts foot in mouth*

I don't know where I got his 6000 3Dmark score from. I swear I looked at it and it wasn't 7200. But, it is.

Now, if his CPU was getting a little higher (close to mine), I bet his score would jump up to about 8-9k easily.

Im sure you both getting what you should get considering components. Your Cpu probably getting better because you have faster ram allowing your cpu to work faster through the bus. Vista 64 plays a role also I'm sure. I would almost bet money he wont see 8-9 without some component upgrades. I see 6000x2+ in the 8-9000 range and they are significately better then the 4000x2+.

Sling the insults away, as often as you want, but this and other insults doesnt explain this "I installed my 9600GT I got yesterday, reinstalled all the drivers, and everything, but all games are as slow or slower than they were with my 6800. " Now get down off your throne and help this guy. Must be the cpu, huh? Going to a much better gpu?

Not to keep going back and forth on this, but in that comparison, you are assuming the 9600 GT is going to be using 100% of the 16x bandwidth. Which, I don't know for sure, but I don't think it does. It probably uses more than 8x, though, so there would be some performance loss. But, it won't be cut in half.

roadrunner 197069

I can't see how you have come to the conclusion that a 4000x2 isn't good enough to run modern games. My 4800x2 @ stock is perfectly capable of playing any current game thrown at it.

Since the OP has updated his 3d mark up to 7200 which is up from the original 6000 he posted obvoiusly he has done something to increase performance to level that just wasn't there before so there must have been a problem.

With his 3d mark score up to 7200 he is now around the mark of similar systems. Its still a little low but nothing to worry about. The extra loss of points is probably due to the crap mobo.

I still recommend a fresh install of vista though.

Wow benches from a old game that isnt optimized for anything and ran sli in both settings. Were talking todays games and todays cards that are optimized for 16x running in a 8x.

If you would check his score with similar systems you could see he is close but losses out to people with better 16X motherboards by about 1000-2500.

Roadrunner, sit down for a moment and try to think ok? Lets assume that everything is alright with 3Dmark. If he is getting the performance he can get from his rig, why do games play worse then his 6800? Its NOT because he's running on 8x instead of 16x. Even if that had any performance impact, the 9600GT should be running as fast as (I'd argue a bit faster then) his old 6800. There is no way a 6800ultra would even max out PCIe8x. The 6800Ultra is as fast as a 7600GT, and that was on the AGP bus. The PCIe 8x is holding him back some, but its not the answer.

I thought his system was fine, but I'm wondering about his slight low SM2 score, and his low SM3. I've been looking at the ORB, and both SM2 and SM3 should be over 3000. SM2 barely is, while SM3 is not. I still think his system is more or less where it should be, I just can't figure out why the games are slower.

To the op, have you looked for patches yet? Tried any different drivers? Made sure your system is clean? (both virus and dust) LOL, did you make sure your 9600GT is plugged in?

I reset my clock speed back to default.

No improvement.

Uh, I'm trying a few of your suggestions, if not, I'm creating a small 8 gb partition and dual booting...

I didn't reinstall vista though.. Ooops.

Can you find a review showing that the pci express lane running in 8x mode hinders fps by more than 1-2 frames when compared to a 16x lane? In the review I linked 3dmark06 took a 700 point or so hit, so wow, synthetic performance is slightly hindered. Now I just need to find the review showing that AGP8x bandwidth is now just barely getting saturated... maybe not, since roadrunner can't seem to back up anything he spouts off with links.

I'm installing some drivers, but if it doesn't work, thats when I reinstall.

I think it may be software, because 3dmark06 is fine, and is actually quite well (I'm happy with THOSE results) but the games aren't.
