is there an app i can get to monitor the temp of my 9800XT? Reading another post i see if it has overdrive then it has a temp monitor yah? so i should therefore be able to get the temp from it?

also what kinda result would be expected from a 9800xt in 3dmark2001

specs are:

amd xp2600
a7n8x mobo with 512pc2700 ram split for dual channel
win2k

im not gonna post my results till i get a fair idea of what it should be scoring (i dont wanna have my score kicked by someone with a cheaper overclocked card 😛

Catalyst 4.1 has temp monitoring built in for all cards with thermal diodes.

And I won't tell you what you should get until you post. I won't show you mine, 'til you show me yours. I doubt anyone else will either. The averages are easily found out on the web from stock reviews.

I think you should get more than 16.5K... I get 15K with my Ti4600! 😎 but then I've got everything overclocked. You running your CPU & RAM at stock speeds?

Also make sure you haven't got AA and/or AF enabled in your driver settings.

i know i thought it should be higher. with my slightly oc'd 4600 which the 9800xt card is replacing I got 12000.

in the first benches ie car chase, lobby and dragothic there is only a small rise in fps but in the other benches there are massive differences between the 9800xt and 4600.... the only thing is with the 9800xt you can put full AA etc on and it has little impact on the score or performance... whereas with the 4600 it falls apart if it has to do AA etc.

but from the posts i see it can score anywhere in between 16000 and 20000 and the performance still rox so im not too pushed (never really appreaciated AA and Aniso filtering until now)

another question: i upgraded from an nvidia ti4600 as stated to the 9800xt. im seeing ppl advise to do a windows reinstall after a switch from nvidia to ati. is this pain in the arse step really necessary and could i really see an increase in performance if i do the clean sweep? the card is working spot on so far with no probs running games etc.
