a CPU that is a good match for my r9 280x?

Currently I have a phenom II 965 and it is obviously bottlenecking my R9 280x, so I'm looking to buy a new processor for my gaming rig which can give me good framerates at 1080p. Games that I currently play include Battlefield 4, DA:I, maybe some SC2 here and there, etc. but mostly I'm preparing for The Witcher 3 and GTA V and 'next-gen' titles in general I guess. The cheaper option would be an AMD Processor like a 8350 since I have an AM3+ board (Gigabyte GA 970 UD3) but I don't know if it would be safer to go for an i5, in that case i'd probably go for a i5 4440 or 4690 top, Or maybe a i3 like the 4150 is enough for my needs? Oh and also I'd need a mobo if I choose the Intel path, Help me decide! Also it's worth saying that I'm willing and able to overclock if it's needed.

As for CPU upgrade, I'd go after 8370, which slightly OCed will beat at multicore even 3770K, but at up to 4 cores only 4670K.

I would go ahead and get an i5 4690k and an asrock extreme 4 or asus z97-a. You can get the 8350, but I am not fan of 8000 series CPU's in Gigabyte am3 boards.
