Welcome to Tom's Hardware Forums,
USB is backward compatible which means that a USB 3.0 device should work in a regular USB 1.0 or 2.0 socket. The faster device will be limited to the speed of the socket. Conversely, if using an older device in a USB 3.0 socket, the device will still only operate at it's speeds.
