amuffin - VisionTek never made the recommendation lists. A 700 watt model made the Lemon List based on a review published by Hard OCP last year.

"Not a 700 watt psu as advertised. Barely managed 347 watts. Old design with extremely poor integration, corner cutting, knockoff/cheap components (Cheng/Chang/Chengx capacitors), and atrocious support. Everything out of spec."

I can help a bit on that and i see the newegg list is also a bit dated

looking to upgrade to a CF certified PSU with about a $100-$150 budget
would need to power two HD 6870s
I am leaning towards an Antec High Current Gamer series (currently have the HCG-520)
preferred shopping sites are Microcenter or Newegg

if a mod would prefer I start a new thread for this please let me know
I just figured I have all the experts on this thread LOL

A good 650W PSU will be plenty for a system with two 6870s. However such a system also needs four PCIe connectors, unfortunately most 650W PSU only come with two. You could use peripheral to PCIe adapters if you are happy to use them. Here what i recommend XFX PRO750W XXX Edition

I don't understand about the TP series. It's about 4 or 5 years old, and was, I think, out of production for some time. Are they just unloading old stock or are they bringing it back? I have no objection, it was popular because of price and hybrid modularity.

oh o.k. so the one i had linked and edited my post was good then?EDIT-Doesn't matter i figured it out was confused for a minute :)

That would be my guess
They have been popping up at clearance prices and usually only one of the three at a time
PerformancePCs had them all listed in the clearance section several weeks back
I posted it as a hotdeal when I saw the 750 at Newegg for $80 last week, it was also at scan.uk at clearance price

Sometimes it would be nice if manufacturers would just leave well enough alone, I'll never forgive Corsair for discontinuing the HX620 😀

I have a 550W TPN running Phoenix, now my primary rig, with an i5-3570K and a HD7870. I do wish it were fully modular though so I could lose a cable (or two). The only reason I didn't move the Seasonic X560 is because I'm not sure the latter's fan has EVER turned on, and it's gotten quite warm; heat in a PC-Q08R is a problem as is.
