Hi, I have an interesting problem to ask for your help.

I am on high speed cable internet. I do have a DLink DI 524 G Router in my
setup. When I set my router output(??) settings to 100Mbps, I cannot get my
internet to work. It works only when set to 10Mbps. But considering the
Asus A7n8X E deluxe and D link is so new, why would it have problems
handling 100Mbps? I am running on Win XP. Your solutions and theories
would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ahead.

Nothing to be gained from setting it to 100.
10 is more than enough.
Mine works at 10 and messes up at 100.
What do you expect to gain from a setting of 100??

About 900%

If he has a home network setup, and is transferring files to/from his
machines he will see a huge increase in speed hardwired - wireless
results will depend on other traffic, physical home construction etc..
He, of course, will not see any difference in speed coming from the
outside world as Cable modem config files are "usually" capped @ 4Mb
or less (DSL "usually" less again) for residential services (which is
less than half of what his 10Mb current setting can handle)..

The 10/100 setting on the DLink 524 is for its WAN port, not the LAN ports.
Leave it set at 10 as very few Cable/DSL Modems like to see a 100Mb/s
connection (nor can they utilize it...)

BTW - The Dlink 524 is one hell of a buggy router, even with the latest
firmware. If you have frequent drop-outs using the wireless portion of the
router, you too have the bugs. The only cure I found was to dump it and go
back to using my trusty Netgear RT314/MR814 combination.

Thanks for your feedback DanO!! I did recall one reviewer who said that
routers/networking is really hit and miss. Two people can use the same
router/network--yet one will find it was easy to install/reliable while the
other says it was the router/network from hell. Some say that networking
wasn't really meant to be installed/maintained by the masses, but by skilled
pros. I don't know if that sounds elitist or not.

I was told that for a WAN, it is limited by the Cable/modem speeds, but LAN,
it may be handy to utilize the higher 100Mb/s settings. I don't recall
having that problem with my old SMC routers?

interesting...see above initial statement. M brother and his friend both
had tried netgear and they had trouble getting them to work. They quite like
Dlink and Linksys though...
I had an old wired SMC and it seems to work okay. I bought a wireless SMC a
while back, it worked well for a while. After a firmware upgrade and a
little while passed, the download speed deteriorated to dialup speeds.
Couldn't figure out why?? No settings were changed????
