Abit BE6 and 256 MB memory don't like eachother

Hi all,
Did anyone experience the problem with an Abit BE6 (original, not Rev2) mainboard that 256 MB SDRAM modules don't work right? Only 128 MB are recognized during bootup. Bios release is TH. Is there a solution for that? I tried several 256 MB modules, only one worked. It is a little bit different then the others (size is smaller). What is the background knowledge for this? Why are there SDRAM modules which work and some don't?????
Thanks
Balazs

Sorry I can't answer your questions, but hoping you can shed some light on an issue I am dealing with. I have the Abit BE6-II (not Rev.2.0), I am trying to figure out if Abit has BIOS update that will lower the voltage of the AGP slot from 3.3 volts to 1.5 volts, making it AGP 2.0 compliant. I found a Visiontek Geforce 3 (original) for $112 + s/h, but called Visiontek to find out that all their video cards take AGP 2.0 compliants. I have looked at Abit website and no descriptions tell of it. Can you help?
Thanks in advance.

Hey Dembala, I am running a P3 500 on the Abit BE6 original. I originally had 2 128 mb modules, and recently added 1 256 mb module. I had no problems with the one I ordered from crucial. Hmm not sure why you had the problems. I did flash my bios to the latest release which I believe is the TH and added the 256 as the first module and have had no problems.

Well, I am not so experienced in this. What is CAS3 and CAS2? What is the difference? I have tried to use different types of 256 MB modules. Only one works which is also different in size to the others. The one that works has the script on it's chips: V-Data VDS7608A4A-75
The ones that do not work: V-Data RC28s040tao-13ac

Well, I think an AGP 1 port cannot be upgraded to AGP 2 only by software. It has some hardware issues as well. This is my personal opinion, it might be wrong 😉

I'm having this problem with both a BE-6 and a BE-6-II, both with latest BIOS. So far, I have tried Mushkin and Kingston PC133, 256mb and only half the RAM is recognized - if I plug 2 DIMMs in I get RAM listed in Banks 0 & 2 - skips 1 & 3.

I don't think it's the mobos as I have a stick of cheap-ass SpecTek PC133, 256MB that works fine in either machine.

Oh, about your hard drives - 😱 fsck 'em all 😱

Read the Memory FAQ d00d, you need 16-chip modules to get all 256MB recognised.
