ABIT kt7a fan 1 terminal

I have my first PC on my kitchen table and am already in way over my head. I got a Swiftech sink and fan which only had two leads (red/black). The ABIT requires their 3-pin fan 1 (CPU fan terminal) to be connected or "the motherboard will automatically shut down" My bailing wire solution was to hook up the chassis fan to fan 1 terminal since it has the third wire which I guess sends some kind of rpm signal. Am I gonna "smoke" something or is there a more "correct" solution? I was really suprised to find the Swiftech (at $50) didn't come with this connection! I'm still afraid to plug this puppy in and see what happens...

OK, I will look for pin id but I think I already know from the pwr supply color coding.....the problem is they specifically state that the fan not only has to be seen as running but also that it has to be running between 2000-5000rpm "or the motherboard will automatically be shut down" so that means I need to hook up not only the + and - but a third connector the Swiftech doesn't have which I assume is the rpm sense wire (yellow)

Hi, (Rob again)
Sounds like only the new'r kt7a's must have the cpu fan hooked up.
You CAN'T plug your monster fan into a motherboard. It uses too much power.
Plug it into your power supply and get a stock fan for the mboard (stack it on your cpu, use it on your video card, or ?)

AMD OC'rs Kick Ass!! 😉
