Why is there so much talk about this Conroe thing?

I mean... it doesn't exist yet.

It's not launched and maybe that there is a reason for why it is not on the market yet.

Until it's launch, be happy with what's available, and that's the X2, cause every other Intel product (includding the 950 crap) is retarded compared to the AMD X2 or Opteron! .

By the way, from my experience in PC's, some advice:

The HDD is the component that is the most "lagging" component (transfers up to 90MB/s best case with access time at allmost pornographic lame levels if we think in computer speed [this is because the HDD has mechanical parts that simply can't go faster]). This is the main thing that we should talk about.

The RAM is the second fuck up component that affects us during heavy app running (transfers up to 6400 Mb/s with for DDR and virtually more for DDR2 ). There is somme bad ass latency here also that is killing our performance. This is the second main thing that we should talk about here.

The CPU... in our days, most CPU's are performant, i think that the other components are holding a system back.

Imagine a PC with RAM that works on clock with the CPU (say 2000 MHZ) at ideal timings 2,2,2,5 1T and a HDD with transfer rate of 6400Mb/s and access time close to that of the DDR.
Put that on a average mainstream cheap CPU (like mine 😀 and don't forget a real bad ass graphic card... not like mine :? ) and the PC will simply FLY.
I forgot the northbridge/southbridge bottleneck ... presume we have like an "NForce 7 Ultra or sommething"

Why so much talk about the CPU? The CPU is fine, belive me, you don't notice the difference between 75fps and 180fps anyway!!! TRUST ME !!!

but... you get annoyed when you start to execute a program and the HDD starts to crawl and you wait for the swap file to be written and the windows is such an expert in managing these resources so bad... that ...surprise we blame the CPU !!!

The CPU is the fastest part in a PC and usually the top quality one (except for when you have a Prescott inside ofcourse or one of those Celeron things that should be banned... 🙁 )

Anyway I dont know how to explain better than this... FX60@2800 I believe is a great CPU but... it simply doesn't have support from the other components that are lagging it.

Would you have the same reaction if AMD released benchmarks for a new processor that's a few months away called the FX-70? No, you would eat them up, especially if they showed a fake 40% then a corrected 20% difference in performance over the FX-60 oced to FX-62.

Your obviously a fanboy jerkoff who has NEVER OC'ed a prescott/presler to even find out what it's potential is, jerky. Try watercooling and said prescott/presler cores and their FSB's have no problem hitting 1100-1200+ which is superior to AMD's HT which must stay around 1000 or your $hit becomes unstable. That's not even taking into consideration that on an A64 you don't have Hyperthreading which DOES make a difference when multitasking. Not available on the A64 is it?? The virtue of the current P4's & PD's is they really just begin to perform once you crank up the FSB over 1000. The one thing you don't get to see anywhere that I know of, is how a P4 630/640 & PD 930/940 really performs when OC'ed to the max stable and watercooled against a likewise AMD A64 or X2 of = $$$. The pathetic BS of "precotts run too hot" is a load of $hit especially if you watercool. My temps are 28C idle & 38-39 full load!! Not so far off from an AMD chip, is it? They are also spec'd to run hotter so who gives a $hit if it does?? Heard of any failing???!!! NOT!

Hell, I didn't even begin to smack him down with the fact that NOTHING can touch the Pent. D 805 for dual core @ that price point which is $135.! NOTHING AMD has can compete @ that price! AND it OC's very well but we're yet to see official benchmarks from anyone. I'm sure they're coming. Probably Xbit Labs or HardOCP.

A64 dont need the hyperthreading, the technologie was very good for northwood/prescott/presler but is'nt worth it for amd and might not be included for a while in the conroe...

If you whater cool a AMD you can probably reach the same level of performance as with your P4's, I dont know about presler's thought.

I think the prescott run too hot, my northwood is at 35 under load and thats runing at 3.5ghz and that on air...So yes I think the prescott are hot and you'll probably think so when you use Conroes.

My biggest disappointment with AMD is that 3GHz barrier the average user encounters using water cooling or without.
I am saying 3GHz, because I would love for my Opteron 175 to hit it, but in particular, its barrier is around 2680MHz.
That is one of the reasons I am soon switching to the A8R32-MVP motherboard to determine if this chip will reach 3GHz.

I get enjoyment with being able to get more value and performance out of a chip, and it seems for that reason, AMD is loosing that enticement that used to come with them.
Intel, on the other hand is gaining that, now producing chips that will get over 1GHz overclock is exciting and awesome, add that to cooler and lower wattage chips... That is what is going to hurt AMD in the true enthusiasts market, imo.

I think that using carbon nanotube memory to replace the hardrive would be a great thing. Since they remain as you last left them until you run power through them. You could get a huge, extremely fast hard drive that uses next to no power. That would be nice.

Although this is more laptop related, I would have to say battery technology is the most lagging. The technology is literally based on the dark ages!! It has such a huge impact that hardware manufacturers have to constantly try to work around it.

Honestly, look at all the cool gadgets out now, and then look at the crappy batteries powering them.

Yes there is a reason it hasn't launched yet. And its the same reason that AMD's new Socket AM2 processors aren't out. There are bugs in the hardware, and they are working them out. As it looks now we should all be comparing conroe to am2, why isn't anyone doing this? That would make more sense since neither have been release yet. I'm neither an intel or an amd fanboy, I have an amd desktop (homebuilt) and an intel laptop (hp). So don't try accusing me of being biased.

I know it sucks. People need to respect others opinions. I really like where intel is going with conroe, I wouldn't call it a scandal. And I'm thinking about buying one if when they are released they still outperform AMD. HOWEVER, if AMD's AM2 outperforms conroe, the choice is obvious, I'm going with AMD for a new desktop.

Of course Hyperthreading is no longer needed since we have dual core currently and we'll have multi core in the future, so, you'll probably never see HT again but it was a useful feature not available from AMD prior to X2 & PD.

I'd love to know specifically what type of HSF your using because NOT for a minute do I believe you if you claim stock. You see, I've got another rig here thats a P4C Northwood 2.8 also @ 3.5Ghz, 250FSB on an Abit IC7 mobo and TT spark 7 HSF and it NEVER has run @ 35C at 100% load, not even close. I'm not going to reiterate my earlier post regarding prescott thermal issues. What I stated/posted stands. What you posted is vague and ambiguous without specifics.

No, I'm merely defending what I know to be true and get really tired of the BS propaganda. I admire and respect AMD for coming up and kicking Intel in the a$$ because they needed it and it is the only way for technology to advance, COMPETITION. We all benefit. Unfortunately, if AMD can't compete on the Bang for the buck level anymore, dollar for dollar, it makes the P4 Presler & PD a better value especially when OC'ed.

Really? Sounds more nostalgic than realistic. Read my previous post, I've got one as well and while it was a fine chip for it's time, it's no P4 6x0 or 6x1 for that matter with the 2MB L2 cache and the preslers 65nm architecture. Especially in current benchmarks, games, apps. and I've never heard of a P4c 3.0Ghz hitting 4.2+Ghz OC'ed on water. It certainly held it's own against the Athlon XP's in most respects especially OC'ing. The P4c hasn't been a failure but it's time has passed as will everything pre-Conroe/merom and rather quickly I suspect.
