Question Acer Aspire not starting

Hello everyone, about a month ago my Acer Aspire 7, with model number N19C5 stopped working. It wouldn't start anymore. I suspect it stopped working due to water damage. Yesterday, I was still feeling mad about the loss of all my data so I decided to take it out the closet and give it one more try. To my surprise, the laptop worked! It took a little longer to start due to an update, but when the process was finished, it worked just fine. Sadly, I didn't have time to transfer all the data to my new laptop at that time so I left it on and hoped it was still going to work today.

When I picked up the laptop today, it was in sleep mode so I was excited to see that it was still working. Unfortunately, this was not the case. It went back to its old state overnight.
The process of starting up the laptop now goes as following:

1. I press the power button
2. The keyboard lighting enables
3. I can hear the fan starting to work but this sound cuts off after about 3 seconds
4. No Acer logo or anything, just a black screen
5. The power indicator on the right of the laptop is enabled in blue, if I plug in the adapter, the adapter indicator shines orange

Things I have tried but didn't work:
Changing the outlet, starting with BIOS, starting with bootable USB, start the laptop with adapter and without adapter, changing the adapter, resetting the battery at the bottom of the laptop, HDMI port to second monitor to check if its a display issue.

I hope there is someone out there who can give me a good troubleshooting guide since I am not a great technician when it comes to laptop hardware. Normally, I would put it back in the closet and leave it broken, but since it started working after 1 month for some strange reason, I feel like there is still hope left... Thank you in advance for taking the time to read my question and give an answer!

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

Seems to me like the laptop won't power up due to a short or a build up of static electricity. You mentioned using the battery reset button at the bottom of your laptop, usually how you go about doing that is disconnect from the wall, then press and hold the reset battery button for 30 seconds. This drains any residual power on your laptop. I would go one step further by disassembling the laptop, then removing the sticks of ram. use an eraser to clean the gold contacts on said ram, wipe clean off of any eraser lint and then reseat sticks of ram.

If that doesn't help, at this point you could just remove the drive from your laptop and have the data transferred to you onto another removable media or visit a laptop repair store for them to backup the data while your laptop isn't functional.

Just a word of thought, don't deal with troubleshooting when you don't have time to do so. You should hold off anything you have scheduled and then go ahead with troubleshooting. You'd have been able to backup your data while you got first life out of the laptop, IMHO.

Hello!

First of all, thank you very much for your help, I finally got some time free after a long busy period and today I followed the steps you gave me. After holding the power reset button, my laptop decided to start working again. Everything works just fine, but I’m scared to turn it off because it might not turn back on after. Can you recommend me on what to do next? I don’t know how to troubleshoot this problem on my laptop, except using the Acer Care hub (which tells me everything is working fine).

Can you maybe provide a troubleshooting guide? That would be very helpful!

Thanks in advance and kind regards,
Lennert
