add old hard drive in new computer

Can I add an old hard drive to my new computer for additional total hard drive.

Absolutely! Just make sure when you put it into the new computer, that the operating system doesn't try to boot from the old drive. Then once in windows, format it and you are good to go. I would suggest this software to help you format it and label it with the right drive letter.

Do I need to do anything special to make sure it doesn't try to boot from the newly added old drive?

It shouldn't boot from it. But you can always manually select which hard drive the computer will boot from in the bios when you first turn your computer on.

My computer didn't acknowledge the new hard drive or my dvd player after i installed the new, old hard drive. When I disconnected the new, old drive, it acknowledged the dvd player again. Don't know what to do. Tried to find them in BIOS but they weren't there. The hard drive was given to me so I don't know anything about it. I find it odd that the dvd disappears.

certainly! A computer can have several hard drive, so the hard drive can be added to your new computer via connecting to motherboard. in general, this won't affect system booting. But if your computer fails to boot, then you can select which hard drive Windows boots from in BIOS.
