Not that I plan on using it much, but I have my hands on a wheel for car games, and I want to see if it works on a copy of "Need for Speed: Underground" that I got from a friend a few days ago.... the NF7-S has no such port... but I do have a SoundBlaster Live Value just stuffed in a box... could I install the card just for the game port and still use the onboard sound, which I assume is way better than the SBLV...

Check your mobo manual. I would expect there to be a header on the board for a gameport, and for a separate connector on a backing plate to have been included with the mobo. my 8rda+ came with one, as did my Asus A7V333 before it, so I'd be suprised if you didn't get one.

Installing a second sound card shouldn't be a problem though, although I seem to recall reading something somewhere about possible conflicts between the onboard gameport and one on an external sound card.

Good Luck, I think you can do what you want

Recent boards from Abit don't have the connector, while Asus kept it. That's about the only reason I can think of anyone would want an Asus board these days.

Oh right - didn't realise that. Does the BIOS/Windows still think it's got one though? Just thinking it might get confused with 2 gameports, even if one of them is a 'phantom' one...

Thanks for the link... I will try the card tonight... will I have to disable the sound features so they do not conflict with the onboard sound...

As far as game ports go, is one the same as any other? I am sure I have 2 or 3 other pci sound cards... they are just not as good as the SoundBlaster Live Value... I might save that card for a system that actually needs sound...

Some of the cheap sound cards have a game port that will kill a MS Sidewinder. I have a Kraft Gameport ISA card that I used in an older machine. Maybe Kraft made a PCI version?
