Hey guys this is my build.

Intel 8th Gen i7 8700K 6C 12T CPU (Unlocked)
MSI Z370-A PRO Motherboard
NZXT Liquid CPU Cooler with 240mm Radiator
HyperX 16GB 3200MHz XMP DDR4 RAM in Dual Channel
Samsung 500GB SSD
Samsung 500GB SSD
Gigabyte OC RTX 3080 10GB GDDR6X Graphics Card
Deepcool 650W Bronze Power Supply
Deepcool Matrexx 55 Case with Glass Side Panel

I want to overclock my CPU as I believe it's running at 3.7Ghz, but it's definitely holding my PC back on games like GTA5 FiveM, where I am not getting the preferred performance I really wanted. I have noticed they can run up to 4.7Ghz.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, relating to how I should go about it, or if it's even worth it.

Cheers Aj.

4.3 GHz was/ is the 8700K's standard all-core/under load turbo frequency...(the 3.7 GHz you mentioned is just a base minimum clock, and, would rarely be seen under load.)

If your mainboard has an MCE mode in the BIOS, enable that, keeping an eye on temps....that would (well, should)allow the max single core clock speed of 4.7 GHz on all cores.

You can also try Intel's XTU, and specify higher clock speeds in 100 MHz increments higher for various core loading scenarios.

If you havent done anything to the CPU like delid it you will run into temp issues before crashing.

This is the video i watched when i overclocked my 8700k LINK But i also delided my 8700k and used liquid metal with a solid copper IHS when i put it back together.

Note that overclocking takes time and you need to test each setting for stability, you cant just set your cpu to what the guy does in the video as not every cpu is the same and will take tweaking to get things right.

Ok I'm at work currently but I ran a program called Cinebench and saw max temps of like 68 if i remember correctly, and I then continued to use it with no issue, my mates rig is this, and he gets really high fps for the amount of graphic mods he uses

Idk if that link will work I will try get his PC from the place he brought it off, but he seems to get way better FPS with far more graphic mods on GTA 5 FiveM.

I put that down to his CPU so was just trying to get close performance to that I guess.

Should I also upgrade my RAM? is that holding my pc back?

Just an opinion.

I would start with the psu a quality 850w is a better fit for the 3080.

Next step is the proper bios and drivers.

Next step is not to run unneeded background stuff.

Below are clips taken in the same area of the map, granted there was more assets present in my clip, but I'm just looking to get similar performance.

MATES PC:

MY PC:

Similar spot, similar fps at a glance, except im using 4:3 resolution, hes got NVE, and reshade.

Do I just upgrade my CPU?
or is my ram not fast enough to keep my FPS in the higher range consistently?
